As the United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, it’s no surprise that the cost of living here can get quite expensive. Now America is obviously extremely diverse and there are plenty of locations where living is very affordable. Naturally, at the opposite end of things, there are also certain areas that are considered the most expensive places to live. Forbes has recently worked with the company Altos Research to come up with a list of the most expensive zip codes in America. They looked at the range of prices of homes, calculated average real estate prices, and looked at how fast homes were sold in these zip codes. At the end they found out which zip codes in particular were the most expensive, so let’s take a look at the top ten:
10. Hillsborough, California – 94010
Hillsborough, California came in at number ten on the list of the most expensive zip codes in the country. Hillsborough is an incorporated town located just 17 miles south of downtown San Francisco, and it’s still considered to be apart of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Anyone that’s familiar with San Francisco will know just how expensive this surrounding area. Forbes and Altos Research found that the average price of a single-family home was $4.95 million dollars, and homes for sale stay on the market for an average of 88 days. This area has seen a boom in business, primarily within the technology field, so many people are now trying to live in this area which causes the price of homes to go up.
9. Aspen, Colorado – 81611
Located within the Rocky Mountains and the Elk Mountains, Aspen, Colorado is another extremely expensive zip code.
