Everything in New York City (like any global city) is significantly more expensive than other places. This is the most true when looking at the cost of living. We all know that apartments in the city are really expensive to rent and often very small, but what are some of the most expensive ones out there. There are two-bedroom homes selling for millions in Manhattan, and that is fairly common. Well recently a penthouse condo has hit the real estate market and it has shattered records with an asking price of $150 million dollars.
Over at 550 Madison Avenue sits the former Sony building. Sony used this as one of the companies headquarters but has left the building, so it is being converted into premium apartments and living spaces. Well on the top three floors (floors 33 through 35) of the building is this incredible triplex that offers 21,500-square-feet of living space. If it sells for that insane price, it will be the most expensive piece of residential real-estate that has ever been sold in Manhattan, beating out the $100.5 million dollar penthouse at the One57 tower that was sold back in December.
The listing is being held by the Chetrit Group who are converting the old Sony building into luxury apartments that target the ultra-wealthy and the super elite. Once the renovations are completed, the penthouse will offer eight bedrooms, a wine room, and even its own spa.
This recent real estate listing then raises the question as too what is too much? You’ve got to ask yourself if a condo of that size is really worth that price, considered what $150 million dollars will get you in other markets. But despite that, I am sure that this penthouse will most likely be sold as there are many extremely wealthy individuals looking to own property in New York City.
