Extremely Rare Dime Fetches Almost $2 Million at Auction

1984 S Barber Dime sells for $2 milliom

An extremely rare dime has recently been sold at auction where it fetched an amazing $1,997,500 dollars. The dime in question is an 1894-S Barber Dime, which is one of the most sought-after coins among collectors. The dime was sold at a Heritage Auctions event in Florida where it brought in that insane amount.

The 1894-S Barber Dime is considered by many to be one of the rarest American coins in the world. It is often grouped with the 1804 silver dollar and the 1913 Liberty nickel, which make up “The Big Three” from the United States. Back in 1893 the U.S. Mint in San Francisco produced some 2.5 million S Barber Dimes. However due to an economic collapse the following year, they stopped producing the dimes while many of the rest were recycled and melted down. It is now believed that only 10 to 24 of these dimes exist in the world, many of which whose whereabouts are unknown. Additionally the dime that was sold is in incredible condition and is believed that it was held in possession of collectors throughout the years.

The dime was sold to an coin collector who has chosen to remain anonymous. The recent sale of this 1894-S Barber Dime puts it up high on the list of the most expensive coins ever sold, especially historical American coins.
