The Embraer Legacy 500 Business Jet is Beginning Deliveries

Embraer, a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate that produces commercial, executive, military, and agricultural aircraft, recently announced that it expects to deliver as many as six of its Legacy 500 business jets by the end of the year. Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration certified the Embraer Legacy 500, leading the company to make its very first delivery to the business jet’s launch customer, a undisclosed Brazilian company, during a ceremony at Embraer’s headquarters. According to Embraer, “The Legacy 500 is the first of a new generation of business jets, and redefines the midsize category. With sophisticated technologies never before seen in their respective classes, this aircraft also brings innovation to the manufacturing system, with extensive use of automation, robotics and paperless assembly processes.” Initially called the MSJ Concept, the Legacy 500 was officially launched in 2008 along with its smaller sibling, the Legacy 450. With a unit price of $18.4 million, the Embraer Legacy 500 is one of the world’s premier luxury business jets.

The Embraer Legacy 500 features the best-in-class six-foot flat-floor cabin, eight club seats that can berthed into four beds, an in-flight entertainment system complete with a high definition video system, surround sound, multiple audio and video input options, a cabin management system, and three options for voice communications and connectivity. The Legacy 500 is also the first midsize business jet with digital flight controls, based on Fly-by-Wire technology, featuring side sticks. The state-of-the-art Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite features four 15-inch high resolution LCD displays that allow graphical flight planning and has options like paperless operations capability, auto brakes, and the E2VS (Embraer Enhanced Vision System), which includes a Head Up Display with the Enhanced Vision System. The luxury business jet can be configured to carry up to 12 passengers, is capable of flying at 45,000 feet, is powered by two fuel-efficient Honeywell HTF7500E engines, and has a maximum range of 3,125 nautical miles with four passengers, which enables it to fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Moscow to New Delhi, or Jakarta to Sydney. Embraer S.A, founded in 1969, currently has a market cap of $6.86 billion.
