Let’s Talk About Montblanc’s Most Expensive Pen Ever Made

Mont Blanc Mystery Masterpiece

For most the thought of spending thousands of dollars on a pen is laughable, however there are many out there that want a luxury writing utensil. While there are many companies that produce luxury pens and pencils, Montblanc is probably the most recognized and respected brands on the market today. Their writing instruments are used by countless individuals across the world and this German company has certainly established a name for themselves. When it comes to pens and pencils, they are the Apple or the Ferrari of the luxury writing world. Most of their pens cost a few thousands of dollars, but the most expensive pen they ever made was absurdly expensive. Meet the Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece pen that costs $730,000 dollars.

Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels were both looking for a special way to celebrate their 100-year anniversaries, so they decided to collaborate together to create a pen that was extremely unique. When two leading companies from the luxury pen industry and the jewelry industry come together, you know that something special is going to happen and thus the Mystery Masterpiece pen was created.

The pen is easily the most expensive pen that Montblanc has ever created and that is due to the materials that were used. The Mystery Masterpiece features 840 diamonds weighing in at over 20-carats that are set premium white gold. The fun doesn’t stop there however. There were three different Mystery Masterpiece versions created: one with rubies, one with sapphires, and one with emeralds. Obviously when your pen contains the entire output of an African diamond mine, it’s going to be pretty expensive. The pens were produced in very limited numbers, and they were the most expensive pens that Montblanc has ever made. I wonder what life is like for someone that can afford a $730,000 dollar pen? I’m guessing it’s probably pretty good.
