Sotheby’s to Auction Huge Yellow Diamond in May

A Sun Drop Diamond Forms Part Of Sothebys Magnificent Jewels Sale

If you have a couple extra bucks to spend we suggest heading to Sotheby’s Geneva next month. They will be auctioning the 100.9 carat Graff Vivid Yellow, one of the world’s largest vivid yellow diamonds. The Graff Vivid Yellow, which holds the color of a daffodil and weighs 100.9 carats will be the showcase of a wide range of pieces for sale at Sotheby’s Spring Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction on May 13th. The huge yellow diamond is absolutely breathtaking as it sparkles with “extraordinary fire and brilliance”.  It is one of the largest cuts of ANY diamond in the world.

The lowest starting price for the privately-owned jewel is $15 million. However, we must inform you that recent auctions have indicated that $15 million is nowhere near what the diamond will actually fetch. The world’s largest orange diamond went up last November starting at $17 million and fetched $35 million. The world’s largest pink diamond, which started at $23 million, fetched a mind-boggling $83 million. Needless to say, this yellow beauty isn’t being sold for $15 million.

The large diamonds that have been auctioned off are absolutely majestic, but spending that amount of money for something like this is absurd. The buyers were not disclosed in the report, but one can imagine that the millions spent on these diamonds was a drop in the bucket for them.
