Guitar collectors around the world are preparing themselves for arguably one of the most important guitar auctions of all time. We’ve seen some pretty amazing and rare guitars sell for absurdly high amounts, and this particular guitar could beat out much of the competition in terms of the most expensive guitar ever sold. I’m talking about the “Black Beauty” (pictured on the left) and it is one of the most important historical guitars of all time.
Back in the early 1950’s Gibson Guitar was looking to release a brand-new model of solid-body electric guitars. Gibson president Ted McCarty drew up some designs for a new guitar, but was never satisfied. He then brought in the prominent guitar player Les Paul as a consultant to work on a guitar together. After much contemplation and work, they finally came up with the Gibson Les Paul. Today that guitar is one of the most iconic guitars ever made and has been used by so many amazing musicians over the years. There are many Gibson Les Paul models on the market, and all of them can trace their roots to the Les Paul “Black Beauty”. That’s right, the “Black Beauty” was the very first Les Paul ever produced, and served as a prototype for the guitar model. So as you can see this guitar is very important.
The auction is being held by Guernsey’s and the guitar is set to go on sale in a few days. Image if you could buy the first Ferrari ever made, or the first Rolex ever made, that’s kind of how important this is. Some people think that the guitar could easily sell for upwards of $2 million dollars. If you’ve got a big enough pocket, it is well worth the piece of history that you will be buying. The auction will be held on February 19th at the Arader Galleries in New York City.
