George Harrison’s Guitar Sells for $657,000

George Harrison Said to Be Seriously Ill

The lead guitarist of The Beatles, George Harrison, may not be as famous as John Lennon or Paul McCartney nor did he write as many songs as the aforementioned two, yet he was still brilliant in his own right. Harrison, who passed away in 2001, is credited with writing several of The Beatles great songs and is nonetheless a legend. Don’t agree?  just look at how much his guitar was auctioned for.

According to reports, George Harrison’s 1962 Rickenbacker was sold at auction for $657,000. The guitar, which was purchased by Harrison in 1963 at Fenton’s Music Store in Mount Vernon, Illinois, was reportedly used during some of The Beatles greatest hits. Harrison bought the guitar when he was visiting his sister. The guitar was a major piece of the song ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ one of the most famous Beatles songs ever.

Harrison had a long solo career after the end of The Beatles. He would eventually succumb to lung cancer at the age of 58 in 2001. The sale of the guitar was part of the Rock ‘n Roll Auction conducted by Julien’s Auctions held at The Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. Somebody got themselves a pretty nice piece of history.
