New England is home to some beautiful scenery and great vacation spots that are off the beaten track. People and travelers of all kinds come to New England for their quaint seaside towns, the terrific landscapes, and their great seafood, among other reasons. While they do not have tropical beaches, or the warmest weather, New England is still a great place to visit. Now if you are looking for an island getaway that still has that New England feel and charm to it then check out the Atlantic Inn on Block Island.
Block Island is a small, 9.7 square mile island that is part of Rhode Island. The island itself is located about thirteen miles off the coast of Rhode Island and fourteen miles east of Montauk, Long Island. Block Island has been a popular vacation spot for some time and is home to some beautiful cottages and inns that visitors can rent out or stay in. The organization known as “The Nature Conservatory” describes Block Island as “one of the last great places”. There are a variety of places for visitors to stay on the island, however if you are looking for a classic inn experience, then the Atlantic Inn is perfect.
Block Island is known for being a relatively quiet island, and that notion is also found at the Atlantic Inn. Constructed in 1879 and with only twenty-one rooms and one larger private cottage suite, this is not a large inn. However that does not mean it is not nice. The Atlantic Inn sits on top of a hill allowing visitors with a great view of the island and the Atlantic Ocean (hence the name). The Victorian feel of the inn is sure to please all. Each room features many antiques, its own private bathroom, and comfortable beds. However there are no televisions in the room, as the Atlantic Inn really wants to be a “getaway from the modern world”. The Inn also has an award winning restaurant to provide you with classic New England food and even Tapas. The Inn is also pretty moderately priced: it costs on average about $205 dollars a night in the “off” season, and around $270 during the “inn” season. Additionally if thats not enough then one can rent out the private cottage for around $475 dollars a night.
If you are looking for a New England vacation where you and a loved one can curl up by a fireplace while eating clam chowder, drinking ale, and looking at the cold Atlantic Ocean and to just get away from it all, then look no further as the Atlantic Inn is perfect.
