Glenlivet Releases the First Collection of 50 Year Old Single Malts for $25K

The Glenlivet distillery was founded back in 1824 by Pernod Ricard in Moray, Scotland. The company has been making premium whiskey products for centuries and is even the self proclaimed “single malt that started it all”. Glenlivet is one of the biggest distilleries in the world and also the largest seller of single malt whiskey in the United States and the second largest in global sales. Glenlivet recently announced that they will be releasing their first collection of 50 year old malts, which will hopefully aid in keeping the company atop the industry.

While major competing distilleries such as Macallan have started releasing limited and rare decanters with very aged whiskey, Glenlivet has yet to jump on board with the trend, until now. The company is releasing a vintage 1964 collection that will begin to hit stores at some point during this month. Glenlivet is calling it, “The Winchester Collection” which features 50 year old single malts whiskey. The company will only be offering a limited number of bottles every couple of years, making this quite the collectors item for whiskey enthusiasts.

The first bottle being released from the collection has been packaged in a classic cabinet packaging with a bottle stopper that was crafted from a combination of rose gold and Cairngorm Stone, which is a grey translucent type of quartz.

The Winchester Collection will, as mentioned before, be very limited and only 100 bottles will be released. Each of the Glenlivet products will cost $25,000 and the vintage series will continue each year. Next year, the 1966 single malts will be released in the same fashion, but for now collectors will have to try and track down a bottle of the vintage 1964.
