Things are stirring up over at Gucci and the fashion world, due to the recent news and the rumors that are flowing in. Frida Giannini has recently left the brand a month earlier than expected, and no one is really sure why. Frida Giannini has been with the prominent luxury Italian fashion house since 2002. She worked up her way through the ranks and eventually became the lead creative director of the entire brand in 2006.
During her time as the lead creative director for Gucci, she oversaw the launch of many products and fashion lines, contributing and designing many of them as well. Unfortunately those in power have not been pleased with how the company was going.
Gucci is owned by Kering SA, a French luxury goods holding company, who own a variety of other brands as well. Still, Gucci is definitely their biggest and most profitable brand. Unfortunately Gucci has not seen any real growth the past five quarters, so Kering is changing up the management of the company. It has been known that Giannini was going to leave Gucci, as Kering made the announcement earlier in December. She was supposed to leave in February, but has now left a month early.
This comes as a surprise and shock to many as Gucci was about to unveil the new fall menswear line and other products in addition to a women’s fashion show in Milan in the next few weeks. Giannini saw those lines develop and was expected to see them through, however that does not seem to be the case.
It’s not clear if she left early or Kering snubbed her, but as no one is in charge of design, the rumors are flooding in. One popular rumor is that Tom Ford may re-join the brand. Tom Ford used to work for Gucci, and was credited for being with the company for some of its best years. Those rumors are unlikely as he also had a rough falling out with the Italian fashion house. Other rumors for the new creative director are Joseph Altuzarra, Riccardo Tisci, and Hedi Slimane. Gucci is expected to make an announcement soon concerning all of this news.
