Elgato is a manufacturer, producer, and designer of various hardware and software that are intended to be used with your computer or smartphone, typically Apple products. The company is privately held and located in Munich, Germany but has offices in the United States as well. Elgato primarily produces various TV and video related hardware and software, however they have a few other innovative products in their complete product line. So we are going to take a look at five different products from Elgato that we feel are extremely innovative and cool.
5. EyeTV GO – $90
The EyeTV GO is part of Elgato’s TV streaming line, and is their newest product within that line. Unfortunately due to U.S. cable providers restricting access to these devices and TV streaming (thank Verizon and Comcast), they are not available in the United States. However, if you can get ahold of this product it’s fantastic. Essentially it is a small USB dongle with a detachable antenna that allows you to stream TV and HDTV to your Mac or PC. Elgato also makes a mobile EyeTV hotspot that can be paired with multiple devices and stream TV to them, from anywhere. Their EyeTV line contains a bunch of cool products that are worth checking out.
4. Elgato’s Game Capture HD60 – $179.95
The Game Capture HD60 is a brand new video game recording system that allows users to stream and capture themselves playing video games on the brand new PS4 and Xbox One consoles. Now maybe this doesn’t interest you personally, however there is a massive market that is expanding with people streaming video games. Don’t believe me? Well a website called Twitch.tv, a video game streaming website, was recently purchased by Amazon for an all cash, $970 million dollar deal. So its clear that there is something here with streaming video games, and Elgatos Game Capture lets you stream and save your video game play in a crisp HD format with 60 frames per second.
3. Smart Key – $29.95
Never loose your keys again with Elgato’s Smart Key. The Smart Key is a small key fob that you attach to your keys and it allows you to track the location of your key ring via the accompanying smartphone app. This intuitive product it very simple and easy to use, but provides a great deal of comfort to consumers allowing you to find your lost keys.
2. Thunderbolt Dock – $229.95
The Thunderbolt Dock made by Elgato is a docking system to be used with a variety of devices, but namely Apple products. The device allows users to optimize their desk space and connect monitors, headphones, Macbooks, iPhones, external hard drives, and more into one device. The dock allows users to clean up their desk and keep all of their devices managed more efficiently.
1. Eve – upcoming system
While we don’t have a price tag for the Eve system yet, or a whole lot of info, we felt that this was worthy of mention. The Eve system is the various devices pictured above that essentially allow users to digitize their home. The system allows you to control and monitor your air conditioner, the heater, water taps, energy consumption, air pressure, the security system, and much more. The system keeps track of these various things in your home and allows you to view them from you iPhone or iPad. Eve allows homeowners to digitize their house completely. The system is on the way, and will be available for sale soon.
