The 2014 New York International Auto Show is upon us and one of the most exciting brands that will be featured is Land Rover. The company is showcasing their Discovery Vision concept car which may very well be a game changer for the future of SUVs. Through design, new technologies and capability the cars are said to bring new vision to customer-focused advanced technology. Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover said
Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand. It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.
Land Rover is revealing the world’s first Transparent Bonnet concept allowing a new level of driver awareness. The car features a “see-through”augmented reality view of the terrain ahead, making the front of the car “virtually” invisible from inside the cabin.
In order to accomplish this, cameras have been installed in the vehicle’s grill to capture data. The data is used to feed a “Head-Up Display,” effectively creating a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain through the bonnet and engine bay, breaking new ground in visual driver assistance.
The technology is turning a lot of heads and as you’ll see in the video, is extremely impressive. It may very well change the landscape of technology for cars in the 21st century.
