Say Hello to the Newest Rolls-Royce: The Dawn

Rolls-Royce Dawn 4

It’s been a considerable amount of time since Rolls-Royce has launched an entirely new vehicle, but a new car is finally here and it may be one of the brands nicest to-date. It’s called the Dawn, and it’s a super-luxurious convertible that has been outfitted with all the latest features, and Rolls has even went as far to describe it as “the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built”. That is certainly a bold claim, so what is it all about, and what do you need to know?

Rolls-Royce has released drophead versions of their non-convertible vehicles, but unlike those cars, the Dawn is first and foremost a convertible, not an existing car that simply has had the roof removed. They want to unleash an all-out attack on the market of high-end, luxury convertibles, and from what we have gathered so far, this car is an absolute dream.

Rolls-Royce Dawn

Like most Rolls-Royces, this car is somewhat of a behemoth. It’s slightly larger than the Ghost in terms of width, but the wheelbase is about 7 inches shorter. We see a similar design language that is distinctly Rolls-Royce, and in my opinion, they have been creating some of the most attractive front ends in the entire automobile industry. If you’ve ever seen a more recent Rolls on the road, then you know what I’m talking about. The car has two suicide doors, yet it still has a roomy interior that can comfortably fit four seats.

While many automobile brands are now leading towards hard-top convertibles, Rolls has chosen to go with a soft-top for the Dawn. Despite the cloth roof, the Dawn will be as quite as the Wraith when the top is up, and that means a lot since driving in that car is like sitting in a professional recording studio. Rolls informs us that the top can be opened or closed in total silence in 22 seconds, and you can even retract the roof when traveling at 31 mph. Under the hood, the Dawn is rocking a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that could be considered a work of art. It offers the driver 563hp in total, and will easily be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. While that’s not supercar levels of performance, it’s not too bad for a four-seater that weighs 5,644 pounds.

Like all cars from this beloved brand, the interior is on entirely new level compared to other cars. A Rolls-Royce is not only a great car to drive, it’s also a great car to be driven in. The interior cabin is also absolutely sublime, between the gorgeous orange leather, the subtle detail work, and the wood paneling. These cars are pretty much entirely constructed by hand, one at a time. Additionally since BMW own Rolls-Royce, the Dawn comes with many cutting-edge technology features. It has an advanced multimedia system, touch pad controls, smartphone-pairing capabilities, 16 individually tuned speakers, voice controls, and much more. Many modern cars can get caught up with having a dashboard that’s filled with knobs, buttons, and screens. With the Dawn, you get all of those features without any of the aesthetic compromises; the Dawn is beautiful inside and out. Rolls also exclaims that each seat offers equal levels of comfort, no matter where you sit.

Unfortunately if you want to get your hands on one of these beauties, you’re going to have to wait a bit as the current year models have all been sold. There has been no mention of price yet, but since it’s a Rolls-Royce, I’d imagine the car starts somewhere between $300,000 to $400,000 dollars. In other words, only the extremely wealthy will be able to realistically own this car. That being said, the Dawn has solidified even more to me what Rolls-Royce has always been about: that they are the most luxurious car manufacturer on the planet. The Rolls-Royce Dawn is an example of “functional” art, and that’s exactly what this car is, a work of art.
