The original Porsche Boxster was unveiled to the world some twenty years ago, and now Porsche is bringing this iconic roadster back to life with the all-new 718 Boxster. It adds a range of improvements and new features while simultaneously continuing everything the original Boxster set out to do: be an affordable sports car that you’re proud to drive.
As is the case with many Porsche’s, the new Boxster will be available in two different configurations: the 718 and the 718 S. Both vehicles posses new, four-cylinder turbo-charged engines that offer these “budget” Porsches a lot of power. The standard 718 is outfitted with a 2.0-liter engine that delivers 300hp in total while the 718 S has a 2.5-liter engine that offers 350hp. Both are now faster and more powerful than the previous Boxster models. We can expect a 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.9 seconds in the 718 and a fast 4.4 seconds in the 718 S. In terms of top speed we are looking at 170 mph and 177 mph for the 718 and 718 S, respectively. Considering that these vehicles are now the brands most affordable cars, those times are quite impressive.
Porsche has also updated the design of these new Boxsters, and they look quite good from all sides. Additionally they have improved the braking system, a revamped dashboard rich with technology, an improved convertible top, more luggage space, and a variety of other seemingly small improvements that, when combined together, make for a solid upgrade.
The Porsche Boxster 718 and the 718 S are expected to be released sometime this coming June. It is understood that the standard 718 will cost $57,000 dollars while the 718 S will retail for $69,500. While that’s a somewhat hefty amount, given what these cars can do, Porsche’s entry-level car is more of an exceptional deal than ever.
