2014 was a good year for luxury car manufactures around the world, namely Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Despite certain nations recovering from economic hardships or those that currently are having financial troubles, luxury cars sales have been on the rise. One would think that this wouldn’t be the case, since shelling out $40,000 dollars or more for a vehicle is expensive for most.
According to reports from both BMW and Mercedes, the German car manufactures reported extremely good sales for 2014, which they attribute to high-demand in pretty much all regions of the world. These sales lead to record years for both of the companies and show that more people are interested in owning a luxury automobile.
Spokespeople from BMW recently said that they have sold over two million cars in 2014, which also happened to be the best year for the company, making this year the fourth in a row that BMW broke its records. BMW has held down the number one spot for the most luxury vehicles sold for some time now. Specifically the company sold 2.118 million cars which were made up of BMW’s, Mini’s, and Rolls-Royce’s, which accounted for a 7.9% increase compared to last year.
Mercedes-Benz also reported their best year in sales ever, with the previous three years also being record years. The company saw a sales increase of 12.9%, accounting for over 1.65 million cars sold in 2014. Mercedes attributes much of this success to new compact carts found within their C-Class and their S-Class lineups.
It seems that this trend will continue in the foreseeable future as both companies are expected to keep gradually growing. While demand is strong around the world, both will be looking at China as the demand for cars there is as strong as ever. They also are planning to introduce a few new vehicles for 2015, many of which are SUV’s.
