The Incredible Zagato Mostro is Making Its Debut in Lake Como

Zagato Mostro

Every year in Italy near the Lake Como region there is the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, a massive automobile event where car brands and design firms show off their latests concepts and vehicles. One of the crowd favorites would be Zagato, an Italian coach building company and design house that has been delivering spectacular cars since 1919. Zagato has worked with many companies over the years including Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati, among many others. Well this year they showed up with the “Mostro powered by Maserati”, and it is an absolute show stopper.

The Zagato Mostro was created to celebrate 100 years of the Maserati brand, so they put their best designers to work to come up with this incredible vehicle. Founder Ugo Zagato created a partnership with the Maserati brothers back in the 1930’s when they collaborated to create the Tipo 26M Sport. They wanted to make various Maseratis more premium, aerodynamic, and sporty, and have released many great vehicles over the years with Maserati and the Mostro being the newest one.

The Mostro is based and inspired off of the 450 S Coupe Zagato Monster which was a race car that the company made in 1957 to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In terms of design, the Mostro features a long nose, gradual body lines, and a very attract back. It looks very much like a modern sports car, however you can tell that it was based off of the classic cars of yesteryear.

Like the old 450 S, the new Mostro is both part street car and part race car. It’s body is entirely made from carbon fiber, it has butterfly doors, and a large spoiler at the back. Under the hood, we find a large V8 engine that has been provided by Maserati. Combine those features with its six-speed gearbox, and the Zagato Mostro is a very impressive vehicle. The only downside to the Mostro is that you’ll have a difficult time purchasing it. Zagato has only produced just five units in total, and they have already sold all of them. So you’re only hopes of driving this car are dependent on if those owners choose to sell their vehicles on the secondary market, which they probably wont. Deliveries of the Mostro will begin in December, and we look forward to seeing more of this car in action.
