Hyundai Unveils a New Concept Car: The Vision G Coupe

Asian car manufacturers have evolved over the years from offering cars that are just simply reliable and affordable, to producing vehicles that are quite luxurious. First there was Honda, then they created Acura. First there was Toyota, then Lexus came along. And so on and so forth. Well Hyundai has stepped up their game over the years, and have recently just shown off their “Vision G Coupe Concept” at a semi-private gathering in L.A. ahead of the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Based on what we know so far and the way it looks, this is quite the automobile, to say the least.

Obviously, as with all concept cars, you are immediately drawn to the vehicles design. This car more-or-less represents what Hyundai has planed for the future of their cars, and I definitely like the way it looks. The car is distinctly striking and very contemporary, yet at the same time, it’s civilized and grounded in reality. The cars lines are long, smooth, and gradual rather than aggressive and ostentatious like many other concepts.

Lead designer of the project, Peter Schreyer, says that car has “a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues”. Hyundai sought out input from many of their design studios from around the world, which were then given over to a team in the United States to come up with the final product. While some concept cars look incredible but unrealistic, the Vision G Coupe looks like a car that could definitely be put into production.

The car doesn’t just look good from the outside either, the interior space is also quite incredible. We see an amazing level of attention to detail on the inside. From the quilted white leather to the wood accents, the interior of the Vision G is like a work of art. The design cues follow the same principles as the exterior does, and Hyundai has managed to put out a pretty great vehicle. In my opinion, this vehicle is on par with Maserati’s and Aston Martin’s, at least in terms of design. For example, the door handles don’t need to be pulled open or closed. You simply push the handle in from the outside, and the door opens automatically. They were created like this so when you pull up to a hotel, the valley can simply just press a button. It’s the little stuff like that that makes this car special.

But then you realize that this car has a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque underneath its hood. Not only does the car look good from all sides, but it has the capabilities to deliver respectable levels of performance as well.

If you saw this vehicle, looked at the interior, and heard its engine, you would not believe for one moment that it’s a Hyundai. Hyundai is taking big leaps with this car, and they’re showing the world that they can make high-end luxury cars as well. We’ve seen it in the Equus and somewhat in the Genesis, but the Vision G Coupe is easily one of their most luxurious and impressive vehicles to date. The best news is that this could even be made into a production vehicle at some point, at least that is what Hyundai has hinted at. Even if it just remains as a concept, Hyundai’s future vehicle will draw upon this car. Regardless, it seems that Hyundai has done an incredible job with this car, and we look forward to the companies future.
