Ferrari has been making many of the best cars that have been produced in the history of automobiles. The company got started back in 1947 and aimed to provide the world with amazing engines and cars, and they have succeeded at that. Ferrari is known for its amazing luxury sport and supercars and their outstanding Formula 1 vehicles. Ferrari sees billions of dollars in revenue each year and are extremely profitable despite their niche market ($300,000 dollar supercars are not for everyone). Ferrari has had an extremely rich history making some pretty fantastic vehicles and they only produce a small amount each year. Over those years some models have stood out over others, and some are sold in auctions for incredibly high amounts of money. We are going to look at the five most expensive Ferraris that were ever sold, and they are all classic Ferrari’s.

5. The 1957 Ferrari 625 TRC Spider – $6.5 Million

The first Ferrari that makes our list is the 1957 625 TRC Spider that was sold at an auction for $6.5 million dollars. This Ferrari perfectly encapsulates the style of vehicles that Ferrari was producing during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. The 625 TRC Spider was based on the older Ferrari Monza and the company made many improvements on it. At the time, this was one of the coolest and fastest cars out there. The car had an insane V12 engine that pumped out 320 horsepower, while maintaining a weight of just 1,500 pounds overall. The vehicle was exceptional when it was first released, and had won many races around the world. It is also extremely pretty, I mean check out those curves. The vehicle was also extremely rare as only two were ever produced. This Ferrari was sold back in 2012 in Monaco for that incredible price tag that makes it one of the most expensive ever.

4. The 1959 Ferrari GT SWB 250 – $7 Million

The next Ferrari on our list is another Ferrari classic: The GT SWB 250. These Ferrari’s are highly desirable amongst collectors as only a limited number of just 150 were ever produced back in the 1950’s. When Ferrari announced this car there were two different models that consumers: the “lusso” version which was made for the road, and then a higher performing race oriented model. Both versions were able to pack in 3.0 liter V12 engines that had between 220-240 horsepower for the road model and around 280 horsepower for the race version. The body of the car featured a short wheel base of 94.5 inches, and was made out of either aluminum or steel. The body was also designed by Pininfarina who collaborates with Ferrari often. The car was sold at an auction for $7 million dollars.

3. The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder – $12 million

Next up we have another Ferrari 250 GT SWB however this time it is the California Spyder version. The particular version was a convertible and was produced to attract American Ferrari enthusiasts of the day. This Ferrari was also a higher performing vehicle that the previous 250 GT SWB that was examined. This model had a 3.0 liter SOHC V12 engine with 280 horsepower and a four-speed manual transmission. This particular vehicle was also the Ferrari that was used in the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, however they had a modified MG and not the real deal. Back in 2008 popular U.K. radio voice Chris Evans purchased one of these cars at RM Auctions for $12 million dollars. Only fifty of these vehicles were ever produced.

2. The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa – $16 million

Easily one of the most recognizable vehicles in automotive racing history is the Ferrari Testa Rossa. This 1957 250 Testa Rossa was the first that was ever produced, and it would go on to become an extremely successful race car. This model car would win first place in Brazil, Cuba, and the Portugal Grand Prix’s and a number of other races over the course of that decade. The car had an impressive V12 engine that produced 300 brake horse power which was class leading at the time. Ferrari only ever managed to produce 22 of these amazing cars. Back in 2011 one of these cars popped up at an auction. The particular Testa Rossa that was being sold was part of the Scuderia Ferrari team and it actually raced at Le Mans back in the day. The vehicle was restored to amazing condition and was sold for $16 million dollars.

1. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO – $35 Million

Finally the last Ferrari on our list is a 250 GTO from 1962. This particular Ferrari has been in the news a few times for a variety of different reasons that we will soon learn. Ferrari only produced just 39 of these vehicles in history and they were specifically built for Sir Stirling Moss who was a profession British race car driver, and quite the legend. The 1962 Ferrari GTO had a 3.0 liter V12 engine that had 302 brake horse power and could accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds. It was also an extremely fast vehicle at the time with a top speed of 180 miles per hour. The Ferrari on our list was sold in an auction in 2011 to Craig McCaw for an amazing $35 million dollars making it the most expensive Ferrari ever sold. In 2012 a man by the name of Christopher Cox crashed his Ferrari 250 GTO it what was called the most expensive car wreck ever.
