The First Maserati Ghibli Spyder Ever Made Is About To Hit Auction

Maserati Ghibli Spyder

High-end auctions are often the places where we see some of the rarest and most incredible items sold for unbelievable prices. Auctions are a great place to find some amazing automobiles, especially rare ones, and in an upcoming RM Auction at Monterey Car Week, the first Maserati Ghibli Spyder that has ever been produced will fall under the hammer.

Now the early Maserati Ghibli’s are already extremely rare, but the first one ever made?! This is something that you don’t ever find, and it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for anyone looking to get ahold of a rare and prized Maserati. Now a regular Ghibli Spyder from this era often sells for anywhere between $600,000 and $900,000 dollars, so just imagine how much the first one ever will sell for.

The Maseratti Ghibli Spyder is a classy, sporty, and beautiful two seater roadster that first came out in 1969. It’s one of those vehicles whose design can stand the test of time, and it still looks incredible today. This particular model was imported to the United States in 1975 where it was driven for around 41,000 miles until 1986 when it was stored and kept in great shape. The previous owner kept it in great shape over that time, and it is completely original. The car was designed by the esteemed Georgette Giugiaro when he was working for the Italian coach builder known as Ghia at the time, and it also features a Ghia badge.

Known for its performance, handling, and just being a fun car to drive, the Ghibli Spyder featured a 4.7-liter V8 engine that offers 330bhp in total. The car could accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds, which is decent even today, but it was amazing back in 1969. These early Ghibli’s were not only prized for their looks and their large engines, but also because they were just so rare and unique. Over 1,200 original Ghibli’s were produced, however just 125 of the Spyders were made….and this is the first one ever thanks to the chassis identification number and the cars paperwork; it’s totally authentic. So given how rare and unique the Ghibli Spyder already is, and when you consider how this is the very first one, it’s no surprise that people are estimating this vehicle to sell between $1.2 and $1.8 million dollars. The auction will be held in August so we will have to wait and see, but I would imagine that this vehicle will easily sell for at least $1 million.
