The 488 Spider is Officially Unveiled by Ferrari

Ferrari 488 Spider

Ferrari has officially unveiled their all-new 488 Spider at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, and the legendary brand has done it yet again. We have been patiently waiting for this car for awhile now, but future Ferrari owners can now rest as it won’t be that long until they can get their hands on this beautiful vehicle.

Launched just last February, the 488 is meant to serve as the replacement for the beloved 458. Well not even a year has passed and Ferrari has already taken the roof off, creating one of the most desirable convertibles in existence.

The vehicle has been designed by the acclaimed coach builder Scaglietti, and it seems as though they can do no wrong. Like the standard 488, the 488 Spider is rocking all of the same features and specifications, minus the roof of course. Under the hood we find a 3.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. While technically smaller than other engines that Ferrari has created in the past, this isn’t lacking at all in terms of power. The car offers 660 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, so in other words, it’s a rocket ship. You’ll be able to hit speeds in excess of 205 mph in this car, and it will easily be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just three seconds flat. Floor the car and in 8.7 seconds you’ll be traveling at around 124 mph.

Like the California T, the 488 Spider will utilize a hardtop design which we are fans of. You’ll be able to retract or put up the top in just 14 seconds at up to speeds of 31 mph. The vehicle also features an aluminum spaceframe, magnetorheological dampers, their new traction control system called the “SSC2 Slide Slip Angle Control”, a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox, carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, and all the other fun features found in $250,000+ dollar cars.

The new Ferrari 488 Spider is expected to go on-sale sometime later this year, and we’re still waiting on a price. But given how the standard 488 costs around $250,000 dollars and how convertible versions are more money, this car will most likely cost even more. I mean, it is a Ferrari after all.
