Plug-in hybrid sport cars are all the rage right now, and most leading car manufacturers are producing one or are looking to produce one. One of the more interesting hybrid cars currently out there would be the BMW i8, and while it’s no hypercar like the McLaren P1, it’s still an impressive vehicle. People are loving the i8 all over the world, so much so, that the i8 was recently named the “UK Car of The Year”.
The i8 is arguably the most technologically advanced car that BMW has ever produced, and it looks like it comes from the year 2027. The i8 uses a combination of two electric motors and a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-3 engine as its source for power. While that seems like it would be underpowered the i8 can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 159mph. Additionally the i8 is also very environmentally friendly, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. It has extremely low carbon emission and gets about 112mpg when using all the engines at once. If you want one it costs a little over $150,000 dollars and theres a fairly long waiting list. Still, the i8 is an impressive vehicle and worthy of its recent title.
Every year around 27 automobile journalists in the UK come together to pick out the best cars for the UK Car of the Year Awards. There are many different categories in all, but the i8 came out on top. Not only did the i8 win the “Car of The Year” award it also won the award for the best performing vehicle. BMW certainly is enjoying this because last year their i3 took the award for the best car of the year. Say what you want about the i8 or hybrids, but it is certainly an impressive vehicle that is deserving of that award.
