I believe that consumer goods of all kinds only get better as time progresses due to research and technology. The rate at which technological advances are made is incredible, and many different types of companies can benefit from this including automobile manufacturers. Technology and cars now go hand-in-hand and we are seeing arguably some of the most impressive vehicles that have ever existed. From electric vehicles that regenerate kinetic energy to recharge their batteries or to self-driving cars, there are many car companies out there making leaps and bounds when it comes to technology. These car companies make use of their resources to push the automobile industry as a whole. Yes most of them produce high-end cars, however it is within these cars that we see the coolest features. We are going to take a look at five automotive companies that are making the biggest technology leaps in the world right now.
5. McLaren Automotive
Most people familiar with sport cars or racing are familiar with the British car company known as McLaren Automotive. While the company produces vehicles that 98% of people will never drive or own as they are all high-end supercars, it is these cars that we see some of the most advanced features that will be realized in other cars in only a matter of time. Whether it be their Formula 1 vehicles or their street-legal models, the cars that McLaren produces are certainly making technological leaps and that is the most realized with the McLaren P1. The P1 is arguably the most advanced hypercar ever produced. It offers insane speeds, amazing control, and the most progressive technology found on cars. Sure it’s a $1.15 million dollar vehicle, but when your budget is that large you can outfit the car with the coolest technology around. The P1 is a hybrid-hypercar that not only has a large V8 engine but an electric engine as well. These two engine allow it to be one the the highest-performing street-legal cars around. However it doesn’t end there. The car can recharge its batteries with kinetic energy generated by the wheels, its pretty much entirely made from carbon fiber, its on-board computer system offers information on nearly everything about the car and features that you could only have dreamed of before. The P1 is seriously one of the most impressive vehicles ever made which is why McLaren has made our list.
4. Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz has always been a strong automobile manufacturer that is known to produce some of the finest luxury cars around. The company also certainly packs their more expensive vehicles with some extremely advanced technology. With Mercedes it is not just one cool or unique feature, its like one hundred cool features. Their S-Class vehicles come equip with practically anything you could ever want. Additionally the newer models are packing some cool tech. They have multiple cameras, laser sensors, on-board computer systems, radar, adaptive cruise control, H.U.D’s, and more. We have also seen a few hybrid Mercedes introduced recently and the company is currently working on self-driving cars as well.
3. Porsche
Much like McLaren, Porsche is another company that is putting some of the coolest technology into their vehicles. While Porsche offers many great vehicles, the Porsche 918 Spyder (like the P1) is arguably one of the most advanced cars ever built. The hybrid-hyper car has a large V8 engine and two electric motors that make it one of the deadliest cars ever created. The car is also outfitted with things like regenerative breaking technology and an advanced computer system that controls every aspect of the vehicle. Yes it costs nearly $1 million dollars, but again when you have that much money to put into a car, the end product is amazing. The car is not only super advanced, but its pretty efficient as well despite it being a hypercar. The 918 is an example of everything a car can be with todays technology, and it is certainly amazing.
2. BMW
The German automobile manufacturer BMW also makes our list. BMW has been known to make some pretty cool vehicles over the years, however it is their recent models that are the most technologically advanced yet. Yup, that’s right, we are talking about the BMW i series. The BMW i3 and the i8 are some of the most impressive technological cars we’ve seen. The i3 is a small, urban, all-electric vehicle whose lightweight carbon fiber body and efficient electric motor make for a great city car. The i8 is an ultra-advanced plug-in hybrid sports car whose progressive design and list of features make it a force to be contended with. At CES they showed of the i3 driving itself when one calls for it via a mobile app (goodbye valet’s). BMW has also been working on developing autonomous cars, and we should continue to expect the company to make extensive use of technology.
1. Tesla
Obviously Tesla Motors is featured on our list as they have been killing it in terms of cars and technology. Tesla arguably produced the most impressive and practical all-electric car of all time, the Model S, and they are only making it better. The car is extremely powerful and the high-end models can accelerate faster than some supercars. The car is virtually entirely controlled by a massive touch-screen computer on the inside that you have to see to believe. Tesla should be unveiling more models in the near future too. With the battery swapping technology, the self-driving capabilities that are just around the corner, and the other amazing features that Tesla packs into their cars, it’s no surprise why they are one of the leaders when it comes to both cars and technology.
