So you’ve finally done it, you are now the proud new owner of a Lamborghini. You’ve been a fan of cars and motorsports your entire life, and now you have purchased the ultimate driving machine. But obviously driving a Lamborghini is quite different that driving any other car, and I’m not just talking about performance. Sure, it’s obvious that your new Lambo is the fastest thing you’ve ever ridden in, but as you continue to drive around, you begin to notice some peculiar things about driving these cars. People act differently towards you, you’re driving habits change, and other cars respond differently now. Here are a few different things that really only Lamborghini owners will understand.
10. Police will pull you over
You could have a spotless driving record, never break any laws, and never speed in your new Lamborghini (unlikely), yet police will still pull you over. Ask anyone that owns an expensive, performance car. Police are more likely to pull you over for things. Sometimes they’ll even pull you over to “check out your ride”. Just be prepared to get more attention from the police.
9. Everyone is taking pictures of your car
Any supercar attracts attention, but since Lamborghinis are easily the most visually aggressive ones in terms of looks, people will take pictures of your car. When you drive to work, when you pull up at a stop light, when your picking up your dry cleaning, whatever you’re doing in your Lambo, always assume at least one person is taking a picture of your car. As you will soon see, most of these points actually revolve around dealing with other people.
8. You’re the most cautious driver now
Now that you’re cruising in your $200,000 plus supercar, a minor fender-bender can ruin your year. Costs for repairs on your Lamborghini are certainly very expensive, so you now find yourself being an extremely cautious and defensive driver. On any given day that I drive my non-amazing, regular-person car I see people texting and driving, failing to use turn signals, cruising through stop signs, and breaking almost every road law there is. The road is filled with many dumb and careless drivers, so you’re now extremely conscious and aware of them. You got to protect your new baby.
7. You avoid large urban areas
The Lamborghini Aventador is currently the widest production vehicle in the world right now. Including it’s mirrors, the car is around 7.4-feet in width. That’s a lot of car. While driving a Lambo in the city is fun if you’re an attention seeker, everything else about the experience is miserable. Most Lambos have small rear-windows, they’re only a few inches off the ground, you’ll never hit the second gear in a city, and again, these cars are just absolutely massive. Driving them in small street filled with potholes in a city is a nightmare. There’s an episode of Top Gear where the hosts examine how supercars perform in dense urban areas, and without getting into that much detail, it’s a headache (parking garages? good luck with that).
6. You own two dash cams
Driving a Lamborghini is certainly an incredible experience, but one that is also very nerve wracking. Since you’re now such a defensive driver, and given the fact that the roads are filled with imbeciles, you are now the owner of two dash cams that point out the front and back of your car. In case anything goes wrong or you get into an accident, you’ll want video evidence of what happened. A police car will roll up to the car accident and then instantly assume that you, as a Lamborghini driver, were driving extremely fast and reckless regardless of what actually happened. So go ahead, and pick up those dash cams.
5. You’re used to walking further now
When you finally get to wherever you’re going, are you going to park your Lamborghini in the front? No. You are now that person that parks their car all the way in the back of the parking lot, hopefully away from all the rest of the cars. You don’t want any door dings, so you’re used to walking a bit further to your car.
4. You’ve prepared answers to a variety of different questions
“How much was that?”, “that has the naturally aspirated engine, right?”, “what’s the top speed on that thing”, “how much do you make in a year”, and “can I see the engine?” are all but a few questions that you have now mentally prepared answers for. During the first week of owning your Lamborghini, you’ve quickly learned that people are going to ask you a lot of questions about your car and lifestyle. It’s just a fact that comes with owning a vehicle like this.
3. You’ve learned to embrace (or deal with) the haters
There are plenty of jealous haters out there that don’t like it when others are more attractive, wealthier, are more intelligent, or drive a nicer car than they do. People will scoff at you. People will hate on you. If you’re a man, soccer moms will think you’re an immature man-child for driving a Lambo, and then there will be plenty of others that think their Camaro is somehow better than your supercar, for example. At this point, you’ve learned how to deal with the people that will hate you for driving a Lamborghini, and trust me, there will be haters.
2. Tunnels are your best friends
The sound of a Lamborghini’s engine is like classical music to some. Driving these types of cars at any level of speed is truly pure bliss when you’re going through a tunnel. You now actively seek out driving routes that have tunnels along the way.
1. You know what to expect from other drivers
A Lamborghini has a strange effect on other drivers on the road. People will rev their engines at you at stop lights, cars will accelerate to make it more difficult for you to pass them on the highway, and sometimes they will just stop in the middle of the road as they are distracted by your car. As a Lamborghini owner, you now have gotten used to what to expect out of other drivers when you take your car out for a spin.
