
The 1980’s were definitely one of the more stranger decades in recent memory that gave rise to some pretty unique styles. For better or for worse, the music, film, and fashion statements of this decade have become very iconic and one can immediately recognize something that came from the 1980’s. Additionally we saw some pretty great cars come out of the decade, and some of them have gone on to become icons. We are going to take a look at a list of the ten best luxury cars that came out of the 1980’s.

10. The Audi Quattro
First up on our is is the Audi Quattro. The Quattro was a mid-sized, 2-door coupe that was first produced by Audi in 1980. The vehicle was used as a road car, but it really came to its own in rally races. The Quattro was a four-wheel drive vehicle that took advantage of the recently changed rules in rally car racing that allowed for all-wheel drive cars. Outside of races, it was a nice luxury vehicle.

9. The Porsche 911 Turbo
The Porsche 911 Turbo has pretty much always been a solid luxury sports car. The car first came out in 1963 and is still produced to this day. Porsche released a few versions of the 911 Turbo during the 1980’s and they have always proven to be amazing vehicles.

8. The BMW E30 M3
The BMW E30 M3 was the first M3 that the company had every produced, and it paved the way for the brilliant M line as a whole. The E30 M3 offered everything one could want in a luxury vehicle at the time: it was sporty, had premium features, and it looked good. It was also an extremely versatile car that could be used as a common house-hold car or a track car.

7. The Ferrari F40
Ferrari released the F40 in 1987 and it was the successor to the 288 GTO. The car also celebrated Ferrari’s 40-year anniversary and it was an all-around great supercar. Even by today’s standards, it’s a good car. It has a 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and at the time it was the fastest and most expensive Ferrari ever made.

6. The Mercedes-Benz W126
The W126 was the second vehicle ever by Mercedes-Benz that was officially an S-Class vehicle and it hit all the check marks of a luxury car: it was roomy, expensive, it could go fast, and above all else, it was a Mercedes. The company made many variations of the W126 and they were so popular that they produced them all the way up until 1991.

5. The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit
Anytime that you are talking about great luxury cars, you have to include a Rolls-Royce. Also called the Flying Spur or the Silver Dawn, the Silver Spirit was a full-sized luxury saloon car in every sense of the word. Its extended wheelbase gave it a large and roomy cabin making it a favorite for high-end limousine services around the world. It was also the first Rolls-Royce to feature the retractable Spirit of Ecstasy on the front. It also had a massive 6.75 liter V8 engine.

4. The Lamborghini Countach
While the car did come out in 1974, Lamborghini produced many Countach’s throughout the 1980’s. This was one of the first cars that really pioneered the world of exotic supercars, I mean, just take a look at it. It was daring, aggressive, sporty, and very fast with its V12 engine; everything you want in a supercar.

3. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage
This is the original Aston Martin V8 Vantage and it was another great car from the 1980’s. As the name implies, the Vantage had a large 5.3 liter V8 engine. Aston Martin produced a few different versions of these cars over the years, and it was even used in a Bond flick.

2. The BMW E28 M5
Based on the BMW E28 5 series, this M5 was the first M5 that was ever produced by BMW when it first came out in 1985. Much like the M3, the M5 offered car enthusiasts a range of options and features and perfectly balanced performance with comfort. It was also a bonus that it was a 4-door vehicle allowing it to have a larger cabin over the M3. The design of the M5 was also pretty solid, and it definitely has aged very well.

1. The Ferrari Testarossa
Many people will tell you that not only is the Ferrari Testarossa one of the best luxury/sport cars from the 1980’s, but that it is also one of the best Ferrari’s of all-time. This 2-door, mid-engine sports car was first released in 1984 and it quickly became one of the most popular Ferrari’s ever. The Testarossa was the quintessential Miami Vice sports car and you were certainly extremely cool if you owned one.
