Audi Unveils a $20,000 Bicycle made from Carbon Fiber

Audi Carbon Fiber Bike

We all know Audi as the luxury German automobile manufacturer that produces some of the best vehicles that are currently out on the market today. Well it looks like they are straying from the world of high-end automobiles and into the world of manpowered bicycles. Audi has recently just unveiled a limited edition bicycle called the Audi Sport Racing Bike. It’s sleek, high-quality, extremely light, and it costs $20,000 dollars. Okay excuse me, it actually costs $19,650 dollars. Still, you get the point. It’s expensive.

Now I personally don’t really know that much about high-end bicycles. I’ve a $300 dollar mountain bike that I got from Dicks Sporting Goods and it works fine for me, but I’m not a cyclist. Even though I do have a very limited knowledge about racing bikes, I do know that $19,650 dollars is quite a lot of money for a bicycle. I mean, you can buy a few different cars for that price. So what makes it so special?

Well first of all, it’s made by Audi. So right away you’re paying for that brand name, even though they aren’t known for bicycles. It’s also a limited edition product, so that contributes to the price as well. However most importantly, the bike is made entirely from carbon fiber. Audi used the carbon fiber that they put on their supercars on this bike. The result? The bike weighs only just 12.7 pounds. A spokesman from Audi tells us that the frame of the bicycle alone weighs less than an just five iPhone 6+’s. That’s absurdly light. Now I would imagine that because it’s so light, that you can achieve some pretty insane speeds on this bike.

In total, Audi will only be producing just 50 units. They plan on releasing the bike worldwide sometime within the next few months. But will people actually buy it? I’m sure they will. I’d imagine there are comparable bikes made from carbon fiber that cost less that this one, however those aren’t made by Audi. So if you want one of the most expensive, high-end, and ultra-lightweight bicycles made from carbon fiber, then this bike is for you. Personally, I would rather just buy a car, but I guess if you can afford a $20,000 dollar bike then you probably already have a really nice car.
