Ridiculous Luxuries That Billionaires Buy - Ferrari

When you are a billionaire you can pretty much afford to purchase any type of a consumer good. Money almost doesn’t exist for you as you could spend thousands of dollars every day and never run out of it in a lifetime. We know that billionaires like to buy some pretty extravagant things, but what are some of the crazy luxuries that they can afford? What do you buy when you own two yachts, three Ferrari’s, and a mansion? Let’s take a look at a list of ten ridiculous luxuries that billionaires spend their money on.

10. Personal Submarines

Deep Flight

So you’re a billionaire who’s got a 300-foot super yacht outfitted with all the luxury amenities that money can buy and are wondering “what’s the best way to get the most out of aquatic recreation?”. Purchase a personal submarine of course! There are a few companies that make them and they are impressive vehicles. Typically they sit between one to two people and are able to explore underwater for your personal enjoyment. They also typically cost a few million dollars to own one.

9. Limited Production Supercars

Pagani

Owning an incredibly expensive supercar is another luxury that wealthy people often enjoy. But what do you do when Lamborghini’s or Ferrari’s are too “boring” for your taste? You opt to purchase an extremely limited supercar of course! Companies like Pagani or Koenigsegg produce some of the best supercars in the world, in an extremely limited quantity. These guys produce like 20 cars or less a year so they are extra special (and extra expensive).

8. $150,000 Televisions

Samsung TV

Any billionaire needs to have a sweet home theater-like set up, and these are another insane luxuries that the only super wealthy can enjoy. Take this Samsung UHDTV for example: it’s a 110-inch ultra 4K television set that is one of the most expensive in the world since it’s priced at $152,000 dollars. This is obviously something that only a very small percentage of the population can afford since it costs more than most of the cars out on the road.

7. Private Islands

Private Island

Private islands are another luxury that only the super rich and billionaires can really afford. If privacy and luxury are important to you, it really doesn’t get much better than having your own island. Obviously you’re going to build an amazing home on it that’s fit for a king too. While island living has some difficulties (lack of easy access to food, medical care, etc.) the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Depending on the location, they almost always cost a few million dollars or even more.

6. The Largest White Truffles in The World

White Truffles

While it may not seem like a luxury that everyone wants, white truffles are extremely desirable and expensive due to their rarity and taste. There are many auction houses around the world that auction off the largest white truffles around, and they sell for absurd amounts of money. A billionaire and casino mogul named Stanley Ho once dropped $330,000 on some of the largest white truffles in the world, twice. I suppose having a lifetimes supply of white truffles is actually a pretty great luxury.

5. Rare and Historical Artifacts

Billionaires also have the luxury of owning and collecting rare and historical artifacts. Bill Gates is well-known to have purchased Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex in an auction for $30.8 million back in 1994. If you are just somewhat fascinated with history, I’d imagine it’d be pretty cool to own da Vinci’s notebook. Rare and historical artifacts are also essentially investments as their value will only increase over the years so they are almost always great buys.

4. 24-Karat Gold Cellphones

Most cellphones don’t do a great job at displaying your wealth, but luckily there are companies out there like Gold Genie who sell custom made phones from gold. Essentially they take existing cellphones and then cover them in authentic 24-karat gold. They even can put diamonds on it if you want. A gold iPhone 6 from them costs $4,271 dollars and it is yet another ridiculous luxury that billionaires buy.

3. Private Jets

When you think about it, having a private jet is actually pretty ridiculous, yet pretty awesome if you can afford it. Only extremely wealthy individuals can afford them, however the benefits of having your own jet are pretty great especially if you travel a lot. Within the world of private jets, there are absurdly luxurious ones. For example, a Saudi prince named Alawaleed bin Talal dropped $300 million on a custom Airbus A380 which he turned into a flying castle. Yeah, he’s a billionaire in case you were wondering.

2. A Collection of Million Dollar Timepieces

Wrist Watch

Why own one million dollar wrist watch, when you can have a whole collection? In my opinion, this is one of the greatest luxuries that billionaires can afford as I’m a big fan of watches. Timepieces from companies like A. Lange & Söhne and Jaeger-LeCoultre often cost hundreds-of-thousands and millions of dollars as they are some of the finest and most complex watches that money can buy. I wonder what life would be like if you can afford to wear a million dollar watch each day.

1. A Ticket For a Trip to Space

Virgin Galactic SpaceShip

Most of us will never get to travel into space in our lifetimes, however that’s not the case if you are extremely wealthy or a billionaire. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic is the worlds first commercial spaceflight company and they can take you to space for the one-time-fee of just $250,000 dollars. The company is still working on test flights, but many people have already signed up. They expect to break out of the testing phases and offer the flights to consumers sometime within the next few years.
