Have you ever read a story that made you rethink your entire career, making you wonder what you have been doing with your life? Well, we’ve got one of those stories for you and it’s about a 9-year-old Australian girl and her 6-year-old sisters who make YouTube videos. Most children that age that are looking to make money set up a lemonade stand or something of that nature, however that was not the case for Charli and Ashlee. These two wanted to do something a little different to make money, while focusing on something that they both loved: cooking and baking. Would you believe me when I told you that they make some $127,000 dollars a month from YouTube? Yup that’s right, these young girls are making more money a month than what many adults make per year.

Outside of cat videos and viral-hits, YouTube is a great place for DIYers and as a resource aggregator for people to learn things. There’s a YouTube video out there that can teach you how to do almost anything, from music production to changing an oil filter, for example. Well that’s exactly what Charli and Ashlee wanted to do when they set up their YouTube channel known as CharlisCraftyKitchen. The channel was initially launched in 2012 and it has gone on to become extremely successful and popular for the girls. Their channel focuses on various videos that teach you how to bake and cook different things, and their videos are obviously extremely cute. No one expected that making YouTube videos was a valid career option when the site was created in 2005, however there are plenty of YouTubers that make a killing on the website. To understand how Charli and Ashlee pull in that kind of money, we first need to get a sense of how you can make money from YouTube.

After Google purchased YouTube in 2006, they launched the YouTube Partner Program in 2007. To become a YouTube Partner you first need to show YouTube that you have a quality channel, like having multiple videos with high production quality and many subscribers, for example. Google will then place advertisements in your videos and on your channel, and they give you a certain percentage of the ad revenue that is brought in, which is around 55%. These advertisements come in the forms of video ads that play before the video, or banner ads that pop-up at the bottom. The more views your videos get and the more subscribers you have, the more money that you can potentially make. It’s difficult to estimate the exact dollar figure that YouTuber make per views, but estimates put the figure somewhere between $1 to $5 dollars for every 1,000 views. That figure might seem pretty dismal, but if your videos get an average of 1 million views, then you’re doing pretty well at the end of the day. Another way YouTubers can make money is through product placement or if they give shout outs in their videos for other businesses. For example, in one of Charli’s videos they quickly talk about a local makeup artists and what she can do in addition to providing a link to her page in the video description.

So that’s how you make money on YouTube, and CharlisCraftyKitchen is certainly a very popular channel. Currently the girls have around 334,000 subscribers and they have 155 videos in total. They have over 290 million combined video views, and average about 29 million views per month. Their most popular video has over 57.8 million views, and they have plenty of videos that have been viewed well over 1 million times. That means the have an estimated earnings of around $127,777 dollars per month, and that’s after YouTube takes their cut. Given that fact, they make more than $1.53 million dollars every year which is pretty spectacular given their age. Their videos range from showing you how to bake cupcakes to making healthy choices like fruit pops.

Not only are the videos popular, informative, and fun to watch, they also serve as a great example for children who want to pursue their dreams. Charli and Ashlee have proven to the world that you can if fact make a lot of money teaching people how to make popsicles that are influenced by Disney films.
