It is quite the time to be a fan of Lamborghini and super-fast automobiles. The beloved Italian brand has just not only just recently unveiled a brand new vehicle, they have also confirmed that they are producing a hybrid-hypercar. At the Concours d’Elégance exposition that is happening in Pebble Beach, automobile brands typically show off their latest and greatest creations. We’ve seen many great cars this year, but Lamborghini may have just stolen the show with all of this great news.
So let’s begin with the new car first. Rumors have been flying for months now about if and when Lamborghini would make a roadster version of their incredible Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce. Well they have just shown this car off in California, and we have to admit, it looks pretty amazing. Basically the car is a roadster version of the Aventador Superveloce, which is their higher-performing version of the normal Aventador. It’s an Aventador on steroids.
So what does it offer? The car features a 6.5-liter V12 engine that delivers 750 horsepower in total, in other words, it goes very fast. The car should be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, and is cable of reaching speeds of around 217 mph. If you’ve ever driven in a convertible, then you know cars feel much faster when they don’t have roofs. But this car is more than just a convertible. Rather than having a collapsable soft-top roof, the Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster will feature two pieces of removable carbon fiber panels that will act as the roof. The car is also 110-pounds lighter than the regular Aventador Roadster, and that weight reduction is certainly noticeable. Lamborghini will only be producing just 500 of these roadsters in total, and it’s expected to cost somewhere north of $530,000 dollars.
Now Lamborghini could have ended the day on that note, but they didn’t. In addition to unveiling this new Aventador, CEO and President of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann also announced some big news: Lamborghini is working on a hybrid-hypercar. Within the last few years we’ve seen McLaren release the P1, Ferrari unveiled the LaFerrari, and Porsche delivered the 918. This left many wondering when Lamborghini would get into the race. At the end of the Aventador event at Pebble Beach, Winkelmann told the audience that we can expect to see a Lamborghini hybrid-hypercar at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. That means they most definitely have one locked away in a secret garage somewhere, and are just finalizing the details. We have no idea what this car will be like, but given just how insane normal Lamborghinis already are, this one will probably be nuts. So how many days until the Geneva Motor Show?
