Who Would Wear a 60-Carat Diamond on Their Belt Buckle?

Roland Iten R60 Diablo

It’s either the most ostentatious fashion accessories that has ever been created or the coolest belt buckle we have ever seen, but the folks over at Roland Iten have designed and created a mechanical belt buckle that features a 60.66-carat orange/brown diamond. Typically diamonds are reserved for things like earrings or necklaces where they are often visible, not a belt buckle that would be covered by clothing. Still if you are seeking for one of the most luxurious belt buckles around, the Roland Iten R60 Diablo is exactly that.

Roland Iten are known for their complex mechanical belt buckles that open up and adjust with a simple flick of a switch or button. Their newest product, the R60 Diablo, is a one-of-a-kind piece that is probably the most expensive one that they have ever created.

The R60 Diablo boast all the specs that are often found in high-end Swiss timepieces. The buckle was fully constructed in Switzerland using the same type of manufacturing processes that are often used on watches. The buckle has 109 separate components made from 18-karat 5N rose gold, and it’s chassis is constructed from 18-karat white gold and titanium. The R60 works in such a way that you simply press a switch and it will mechanically fasten itself to your exact waist measurements. Completely unnecessary? Yes. Extremely cool? Also yes. With its various gears and cogs, it’s as complex as a Audemars Piguet watch.

Still as impressive as the complex switches and gears found in the R60 are, the really attraction here is the diamond. Roland Iten wants to bring high-end jewels back into the world of male fashion. World famous jeweler, Claude Sfier were the ones responsible for crafting the beautiful diamond. The 60.66-carat diamond was first discovered over 160 years ago in India and it has gone through a few different owners during that time frame. Not only is the diamond massive, conflict-free, extremely old, and cut in a unique way that resembles a kite, it is also practically flawless in color. It’s considered a VS2 diamond and typically only 2% of diamonds are within this category.

Now Roland Iten has only created just one single R60 Diablo. It is currently on a world jewelry tour being shown off in cities like New York, Dubai, London, and Hong Kong. After that, it will head to a private Christies auction for sale. A portion of the final sale will be donated to the Art Center College of Design’s Norman Shureman Memorial Scholarship Trust. Typically their normal belt buckles sell for anywhere between $5,000 and $100,000 dollars, but given that this belt buckle is limited to just one unit and it has a 60.66-carat diamond, I would imagine that it will be sold for a few million dollars. So would you wear a million dollar belt buckle?
