The high fashion industry is a very strange industry. While high-fashion companies often set trends and looks that other fashion companies follow, their products typically cost insane amounts of money that only the super elite can afford. When dealing with these high-end luxury fashion companies it is one thing purchasing say, a suit or a handbag that is unique to that company. However, in my opinion it can be frivolous to purchase tiny accessories from these companies, like wallets for example. Well check out this wallet (pictured above) from Hermes.
Hermes is a French high-fashion company based out of Paris which specializes in high-fashion, luxury clothing and goods, leather goods, and ready-to-wear clothing. The company itself is fairly old and has been in the industry since 1837 when it was founded by Thierry Hermes. While the company originally got its start making saddles for horses, they have since diversified their product line. Like most French-based fashion companies, their products are very expensive, especially their “Azap” leather wallet.
The Azap wallet is a simple zippered long wallet in taupe that is made from goatskin leather. The wallet features twelve credit card slots for your various cards, two separate dollar bill compartments, and a change pursue. The wallet comes in a variety of colors that include sand, beige, brown, and black. The wallets dimensions measure out to be eight inches wide by four inches tall. That is pretty much it when it comes to this wallet, and Hermes wants you to spend $2,925 dollars on it. What?
Okay we know goods from designers cost a lot of money, but this is just ridiculous. There is not even a visible logo on the wallet. At least with say, a Louis-Vuitton wallet, they have there logo plastered on it. But with this Hermes wallet it is just a plain black wallet. So what exactly are you paying for here? It seems nonsensical to have a wallet that costs more than its contents, as even billionaires probably don’t carry $3,000 dollars in cash on their persons. Is Hermes asking too much with this one?
