Five Social Networking Sites for the Wealthy

Facebook Holds Its Fourth f8 Developer Conference

We are all familiar with social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These site are all inclusive and allow for any individual to be connected to a friend, family member, or colleague. However, although these more popular and well-known social networking sites allow for better connectivity between all people, there are some websites that are very particular about their users, social networking sites are exclusively for the wealthy. They weren’t created by Mark Zuckerberg. Instead they were created for people like Mark Zuckerberg, the incredibly rich and powerful. Here are five social networking sites for the wealthy.

ASMALLWORLD

ASMALLWORLD was founded back in 2004, making it one of the first and oldest social networking sites for the wealthy. The website describes its community as “the leading private international lifestyle club”  with members that “are internationally-minded people committed to opening their lives to each other, sharing extraordinary experiences and ensuring that fellow members can live like locals wherever they go.”  Most of AMSALLWORLD’s members are younger than 40 years old, have their masters, are involved in finance, and live in a major international cities. The site boasts quite the impressive list of members, as well. Naomi Campbell, the Weinstein brothers, Paris Hilton, and even possibly Quentin Tarantino (he’s only rumored to be a member at the moment).

Diamond Lounge

Diamond Lounge began as a social networking site (still is somewhat) but has now switched its main focus to being a dating website for millionaires. The site proclaims that most of its members are “entrepreneurs, CEOs, lawyers, sports stars, actors, models, beauty queens.” It is now essentially Match.com for the ridiculously rich, attractive, and single.

Affluence

Many describe Affluence as “Facebook for rich people.” The average member of the site, which was founded in 2008, has a net worth of about $33 million, and just to become a member period, you must have net worth of at least $1 million or make $200,000 a year. While Affluence is used for exclusive party invites and special access to popular events, members mainly use the site to promote charities that they sponsor, making this a social networking site with a “heart of gold,” instead of just gold. Some nice perks of the Affluence include 24-hour concierge and assistance service, exclusive product discounts, and  a complimentary subscription to Affluence print magazine.

SQUA.RE

SQUA.RE is mainly used as a way for the wealthy to get in touch with best of the best when it comes to luxury, style, and lifestyle. A relatively small site (members are somewhere between 500-1,000), SQUA.RE features community-generated Internet TV focusing on nightlife, style, high living, and luxury travel. Every single video and photo that is uploaded onto the SQUA.RE must be first approved by the SQUA.RE staff before it’s posted, ensuring its “quality and class.” To become a member, one just has to be invited by an existed member – sounds like a pretty simple process.

Island X

Island X is a social networking site for those who travel the world. Its users are some of the most well-traveled “international people” in the world. In order to become a member, you have to be currently attending (or have attended) an international school and must be invited and approved by another member. According to the Island X itself, this is social networking site not just for the wealth but for “citizens of the world who have experienced a truly diverse and global life.”  Island X “brings them together based on this common experience.”
