Just when you thought social media couldn’t get any worse the W Hotel has taken things to a whole new level. And for those of you who live, drink, eat, sleep, breathe, etc. etc. etc. social media than the wedding of your dreams might be at the W Hotel.
The W Hotel chain in New York has announced a Social Media Wedding Concierge service and it’s exactly what it sounds like. For the small fee of $3,o00, the hotel will have someone follow around the bride and groom creating Facebook status updates, uploading pictures to Instagram and live Tweeting the entire event (ceremony included).
The service, however, has not been received exactly how the hotel was hoping. They’ve received tons of flak for their “innovative” idea. It’s been called a “step too far in narcissism” and a “ridiculous waste of money”.
While we agreed whole-heartedly with critics, it’s hard to deny the opportunity to create Vine videos of the couple’s first dance, live Tweet every line of the groomsman’s speech, and curating a unique wedding hashtag. Sounds like money well-worth it doesn’t it? The best part is the press release for the service said “It’s time to say goodbye to shameless wedding selfies and hello to a professional Social Media Wedding Concierge”.
Oh boy…
