New Technology Converts Eyeglasses to Sunglasses on Demand

Venice Beach Celebrates Its 108th Birthday This Weekend

For many people, using both sunglasses and regular prescription eyeglasses is a necessity. Lots of people have started to use transitional lenses so that they can have their eyeglasses darken when they are hit by a certain amount of light to get the best of both worlds for one price without the hassle of having to always be carrying two pairs of glasses and switching them off. While transitional lenses are nice, they have their limitations and take a decent amount of time to adjust to light or the absence of it, but now, researchers believe that a new type of eye wear is on the way that will change all of this.

These new glasses will have the ability to work as prescription eyeglasses that can darken at a fast pace whenever the owner wants them to. This reality is closer than we realize and eliminate the problem that transitional and photochromic lenses have of failing to darken while people are inside of their cares or wearing hats. The new idea is different because it has a small electrical charge in the glasses that, upon the touch of a finger, will switch the lenses from being clear to completely dark or from dark to light as well.

This would allow glasses wearers to really customize the amount of darkness they want in their lenses with a very wide range of nearly everything in between the scale of completely clear to completely dark. The magic touch is a very simple gesture that would be easy to control and, according to the scientists behind the design, can easily be applied to any retail pair of glasses. The idea is very interesting and could offer a really nice feature to eye wear for those that need prescriptions, so hopefully customers will see it in the market soon.
