The Highest Paid NBA Coaches in 2014

Basketball is a thriving sport that is full of team owner’s with plenty of money to put towards improving their teams. This also allows for coaches to earn a higher salary, especially if they are good and constantly being sought after as a coach. Certain NBA coaches have built up such a solid track record and are now making a ton, so here are the highest paid coaches in 2014.

5. Steve Kerr – $5,000,000

Steve Kerr was just recently announced as the Golden State Warriors head coach for the upcoming season. Kerr played in the NBA from 1988 until 2003 and was able to win five championships during that time. Kerr has had affiliation with some organizations, but this is his first coaching position.

4. Derek Fisher – $5,000,000

Derek Fisher is one of the leagues newest coaches and will be running the New York Knicks operation when the season starts back up. Fisher had a very long and successful professional career in the NBA playing from 1996 until 2014 where he won five championships. He’s back working with Phil Jackson in New York and looking to utilize the talent that the team has.

3. Gregg Popovich – $6,000,000

Gregg Popovich is one of the NBA’s most legendary coaches. He was given the head coaching job of the San Antonio Spurs back in 1996 and hasn’t left the club since them. One of the most dedicated coaches, Popovich has secured five NBA championships and been the coach of the year on three separate occasions.

2. Stan Van Gundy – $7,000,000

Stan Van Gundy started coaching in the NBA as an assistant with the Miami Heat from 1995 until 2003 when he became the head coach. Van Gundy eventually moved over to coach Orlando where he found lots of success with Dwight Howard, but the two could never achieve winning a championship. Van Gundy is now coaching the Detroit Pistons and making $7,000,000 a year.

1. Glenn “Doc” Rivers – $10,000,000+

Doc Rivers was a former NBA player who eventually turned coach. Doc found a lot of success coaching the Boston Celtics throughout their “Big 3” era that included Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett winning the championship in 2008. Doc Rivers is now coaching the Los Angeles Clippers where he is also the organization’s president of basketball operations.
