Bill Gates Is Still The Richest Person in The World in 2016

Every year Forbes takes a look at the wealthiest humans in the world, and then ranks them accordingly. The company has recently published its 30th list for 2016, and to no one’s surprise, Bill Gates still comes out on top. In total some 1,810 billionaires have made the list with a combined net worth of $6.48 trillion dollars. While that’s an amazing amount of total wealth, it has actually fallen $570 billion dollars compared to last year. Many individuals on the list, specifically within the top 20, have moved either up or down on the list. Regardless, here are the five richest people on Earth in 2016.

Jeff Bezos

5. Jeff Bezos 

Jeff Bezos came in at number five this year with a fortune of some $45.2 billion dollars. The 52-year-old currently resides as the CEO of Amazon which is the largest online retailer in the United States. Additionally Jeff Bezos is also the third richest American.

Carlos Slim

4. Carlos Slim 

Carlos Slim is a Mexican businessman and investor who has made most of his money from his various business ventures and holdings. He’s fallen to the number four spot this year, as in 2015 he was ranked as the second richest person in the world. Still in 2016 Carlos Slim is worth a cool $50 billion dollars.

Warren Buffett

3. Warren Buffett 

Warren Buffett is a man that needs no introduction, as he is often ranked extremely high on the Forbes list. He came in at number three this year thanks to his incredible $60.8 billion dollar fortune, which also makes him the second richest individual from the United States.

Amancio Ortega

2. Amancio Ortega 

Amancio Ortega displaced Carlos Slim in 2016 and took his number two spot on the list. The Spaniard made the vast majority of his fortune as the founder of the Zara empire. With his $67 billion dollar fortune he’s not only the second richest person in the world, he’s also the richest European as well.

1. Bill Gates 

As previously mentioned, Bill Gates is still holding down the number one spot as the richest person in the world in 2016. The Microsoft founder has been on the Forbes list for some 22 years now and he’s held down the number one spot for the past three years in a row. In 2016 Bill Gates is worth an incredible $75 billion dollars.
