luxembourg

15. Luxembourg

The small, European nation of Luxembourg makes our list as they have a considerably large amount of wealthy individuals. Despite having a population somewhere around 550,000 people, Luxembourg has the second highest GDP per capita rate of any place in the entire world. The average citizen of Luxembourg has a purchasing power of $96,000 dollars, so since there are just so many wealthy people that live here, naturally a large group likes to flaunt what they have. Luxembourg is also considered to be a tax haven so it is home to many global banks. So as you can obviously see, there are a lot of rich people that live here.

Nations that flaunt wealth - Italy

14. Italy

It should not be much of a surprise that a country that is home to brands like Gucci, Ferrari, Prada, Lamborghini, Ferragamo, Maserati, and many others has a rich population that likes to show off. Italians have always been well known for their style, and you will not see a wealthy Italian that doesn’t dress well or owns a nice car. While it’s not the richest nation in the world, the rich individuals that live here certainly like to show off. Just drive around the Lake Como region where you can see for yourself.

Paris, France

13. France

Like Italy, France is also home to many important and expensive brands, and it is definitely the fashion capital of the world. And we’re not talking about regular clothing, but stuff from Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and others. Additionally the French have often been stereotyped as being somewhat snobby to begin with. Whether or not that is true, any country that has a wealthy population and whose culture is often regarded as high-class produces wealthy individuals that enjoy showing off just exactly how much money they have. France is one of them.

India

12. India

Now India might come as a surprise to many, as it is still a developing nation with a largely poor population. We are well familiar with the poverty in India and how bad it can be, however we are probably less familiar with the few that are extremely wealthy. In a nation that has a large population living in poverty, typically the wealth flaunt their money even more so. It kind of says “I’ve escaped poverty” or “look how much I’ve accomplished”. The caste system in India is still an ingrained part of the culture, and it has always been known that those in the upper castes show off and look down upon those beneath them.

Bahrain

11. Bahrain

The island-country of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf is another nation where we see a large group of rich individuals flaunt their wealth. Bahrain has a high GDP per capita rate, the economy is strong, they export oil, and are one of the largest financial and banking centers in the Middles East. While not everyone is extremely rich here, a good portion of their population is and like other wealthy states in the Middle East, some Bahrainis like to show off. They also have a ruling royal family that are absurdly well-off financially.

San Marino

10. San Marino

San Marino is an extremely small micro state that is completely surrounded by Italy. It has a population of around 33,000 individuals, which makes it smaller than most cities. It is also one of the richest nations in the world, in terms of GDP per capita. San Marino has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world, a budget surplus, absolutely no debt, and it’s also the only country in the world where there are actually more cars that people. The reason San Marino makes our list is similar reasons that Luxembourg and other small city-states are on the list: because the population is so small and yet so wealthy, the majority of the wealthy people are competing with each other to show who’s got more. It’s not the case for everyone, but when you live in a place where all your neighbors drive Mercedes or BMW’s, people tend to flaunt their wealth a bit more.

Singapore

9. Singapore

We also have the city-state of Singapore on our list for many reasons similar to San Marino and others. The entire country is a city, its economy is very strong, the citizens enjoy a high standard of living, it’s a major banking nation, and the GDP per capita rate is the third highest in the world. Despite having one of the biggest gaps of income equality in a developed nation, those that are on the top like to make it known. Living in Singapore is extremely expensive, so those that can afford to live in the nicer areas, are substantially wealthier than the average person.

Switzerland

8. Switzerland

We also include Switzerland on our list of nations that have the most amount of rich people that flaunt their wealth. Switzerland has always enjoyed an extremely high standard of living, and Geneva is one of the most expensive cities to live in the world. It’s a relatively small nation, however it has many key features that give it a spot on our list. Switzerland has a high GDP per capita rate, a good economy, and is home to many important industries, namely watchmaking brands. Pretty much every leading watch or timepiece manufacturer is from Switzerland. While that may not seem like a lot, it certainly accounts for much considering these brands like Rolex, Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer, and others are among some of the most expensive in the world. Switzerland also is arguably the most famous tax haven in the world, so the banking system here is quite strong. When you take all of that into account, there are plenty of rich people here that flaunt their wealth.

Hong Kong

7. Hong Kong

While it’s technically not a country, Hong Kong is generally perceived and viewed as one. It is a special administrative district of China that has a separate economy, and is pretty much completely autonomous from mainland China. The amount of wealth and business that has traveled to Hong Kong in the past twenty years is absolutely staggering. Hong Kong is ranked fifth in the Global Cities Indexes and has one of the highest per capita incomes of any place in the entire world. Still there are large levels of income inequality, but those on top do tend to show off more so than others.

Qatar

6. Qatar

Qatar has the highest per capita income in the entire world, an immensely strong economy, a relatively small population, and controls roughly a third of the worlds natural gas and oil reserves. All of those facts make Qatar an easy fit on our list, given the amount of wealth it has. Qatar, like other surrounding nations, are home to some of the wealthiest people in the world and everything here is extravagant.

China

5. China

China has the second largest economy in the world, and even though there are plenty here living in poverty, there are also many that are extremely wealthy. Status and wealth get you extremely far in China, and you’ll find many individuals that will let you know that they’re rich. A variety of luxury automobile manufactures are targeting China as brands like Bentley, Mercedes, and Rolls-Royce saw the highest levels of sales in China. When the $20,000 dollar gold Apple Watch came out in China, it sold-out in less than an hour. There is no mistaking that there are plenty of Chinese that like to flaunt how much money they have.

United States

4. The United States

The United States has always focused heavily on consumerism and buying things. While there is relative amounts of income inequality here, there are many wealthy individuals as the United States is home to the most amount of millionaires and billionaires in the world. While you may not see evidence of rich people showing off how much they make in Gary, Indiana, just take a walk through the Upper East Side of New York or stroll through Beverly Hills. You’ll find plenty of individuals that like to flaunt their financial status to others.

Monaco

3. Monaco

Monaco is a place that makes Beverly Hills look like a slum. Pretty much everyone that lives here is extremely wealthy. You’ll find Ferraris and Prada boutiques on nearly every street corner and see some of the most incredible yachts in the world. The citizens also pay no income tax, as the city-state attains nearly all of its funds from casinos. You basically have to be a millionaire to live here, and it’s well known to have a large population of individuals that flaunts their wealth and status.

Saudi Arabia

2. Saudi Arabia

While not everyone in Saudi Arabia is rich, a good number of people are. And they aren’t just like normal rich people, they’re like absurdly rich. The members of the Saudi Royal family are some of the wealthiest people in the world and the nation is the largest producer of oil in the entire world. This is a country where people own $300 million dollar super yachts and where some people own 15 different Lamborghini’s. When I was in college I took classes with some Saudi Arabian exchange students and they pretty much exclusively wore Gucci, Prada, and Versace clothing to class everyday.

United Arab Emirates

1. The United Arab Emirates

Home to the most expensive hotel in the world, manmade islands, indoor ski resorts located in the desert, and the tallest building on the planet, is there honestly any other place that flaunts its wealth more than the United Arab Emirates? The answer is no. Take a drive through Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and every third car is a Ferrari or a McLaren. The people that live here are have just so much money, they really don’t know what to do with it. Which is why they construct manmade islands and what not. There really isn’t anywhere else quite like the United Arab Emirates and it certainly has the biggest population of those that like to display their wealth for the world to see.
