New York City’s New Power Spa Offers $1,000 Haircut

2014 New York Power Breakfast

You remember when John Edwards was trying to run for president and caught so much flack for getting $400 haircuts? Well, there’s actually a new spa at the Loews Regency Hotel  (most famous for its “power breakfast”) on Park Avenue in New York City where haircuts cost over double what Edwards was paying. That’s right: this spa offers haircuts for $1,000.

Jonathan Tisch (photographed above, in between Andrew and Jim Tisch), co-chairman of the board of Loews Corp., has been a long-time client and friend of stylist Julien Farel, one of the most well-known and highly regarded stylists in New York.  Tisch reached out to Farel for his A-list expertise in order to open a luxury spa space for Loews Regency’s biggest “high rollers.”

The new spa offers a trademarked “power” menu with services like a “Power Hour,” where a person can enjoy a manicure, lunch, and get a new haircut all within the time frame of just one hour. The quick but effective “Power Hour” provides the perfect balance of speed and quality for the wealthy businessmen that Tisch and Farel are attempting to reach out to with this new spa.

While paying $1000 for a haircut may seem completely ridiculous to most people (couldn’t Frank, the barber down the street, do just as good of a job?), it’s not about the price but rather the status and sense of luxury that comes with paying that amount of money. Even though some of these businessmen may not even have enough hair on their heads to truly get a real haircut, it’s the feeling, the enjoyment and pride that they receive from visiting places like the Loews Regency Hotel, that so many of these New York men pay for – not the haircut itself.
