America’s Most Expensive House Sells for $147 Million

The United States is filled with homes that cost millions of dollars. High-end communities in almost every city feature homes with prices upward of a million dollars, particularly in affluent cities such as the Hamptons, Manhattan, Miami, Los Angeles and Orange County. However, the most expensive home that ever sold in the US can only come from one city at a time.

The most expensive home in the US was recently sold to Hedge Fund manager Barry Rosenstein. The financial wizard is said to have paid $147 million for a home in the exclusive area known as East Hampton. Rosenstein is the hedge fund manager at Jana Partners, which affords him the luxury of paying for the most expensive home ever sold in America. Of course, there are homes worth more and even listed for more than what Rosenstein paid for his new Hamptons estate, but they haven’t sold yet. For that reason, Rosenstein gets to take home the honors of purchasing the most expensive home in the country for the time being.

Owned until just recently by the managing director of Tweedy, Browne Company investment firm, the late Christopher H. Browne, this Hamptons estate sits on 18 ocean front acres. Technically, the sale hasn’t been finalized yet as the closing date hasn’t yet come to pass, but once Rosenstein pays the $147 million asking price for his new Hamptons estate, he’ll break the record for most expensive home sold.

Two weeks ago, the honor of purchasing the most expensive home in the country was given to an unknown person after the purchase a home in the upscale community of Greenwich, Connecticut for $120 million. Greenwich, much like the Hamptons, is an incredibly affluent New England community, and home to many of the country’s rich, famous and wealthy. Since these two areas of the country are so affluent, it only makes sense that they’d top the list of most expensive homes ever sold in the US.
