Woodford Reserve has Unveiled a $1,000 Mint Julep Cup In Honor of the Kentucky Derby

Woodford Reserve Mint Julep Kentucky Derby

Woodford Reserve is a high-quality and luxurious Kentucky bourbon whiskey that is highly sought after and one of the best around. It’s produced in limited quantities each year, and it is also the official whiskey of the Kentucky Derby. While the race has come and gone, you can still celebrate by picking up their $1,000 dollar mint julep cup that has been created to honor the race.

This is fifteenth year in a row where Woodford Reserve has crafted a bespoke cup for fans of the Kentucky Derby, and it’s still as expensive as ever. $1,000 dollars to be exact. To be clear, you’re just paying for one of these bespoke cups. The whiskey will be extra. The cups have been created in a collaboration between mixologist Pamela Wiznitzer and esteemed fashion designer Billy Reid. Only 90 cups have been produced in total, and they are expected to sell out.

The mint julep is a unique cocktail that is served at the Kentucky Derby and it’s a crowd favorite. This years “official” recipe calls for 2-ounces of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked whiskey, .75-ouncs of coconut pal sugar syrup, six to eight chocolate mint sprigs, candied orange and lemon slices, and powdered sugar. You combine all the ingredients in the cup, and then mix it together with the mint. Sure you can use any mixer, but don’t you want the official cup?

While you can make this drink in any old cup, if you really want to be official than this bespoke cup is just the thing for you. It’s pretty expensive, but I would imagine that they increase in value over the years given their historical significance. Still I personally would never spend that much money on a cup, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way.
