Luxury Rental of The Week: The Minimalistic “Villa Gaia” in Santorini

The island of Santorini in Greece is one of the nations true treasures, and it is the ideal vacation destination for a variety of reasons. The area is beautiful, the towns are charming, and the weather is almost always nice. There really aren’t any other places like it. The way the island just “jumps” out of the water with it’s large cliffs that have homes scattered across seems like it’s something out of a film. And it is here on this dream-like island that we find our luxury rental of the week, Villa Gaia.

The phrase “less is more” is one that many base their lives on in an effort to simplify things. Minimalism can be almost like an ideology where you take solace in having less, and when it comes to design, this can pay off exponentially. Villa Gaia would be the perfect example to prove this point, as the home is extremely simple, yet ridiculously beautiful and stylish. The home is actually comprised of two cave villas, which are very common for this area. Since the cliffs in this region are so steep, homes are constructed into the ground. Besides, with the incredible views that Villa Gaia offers, you’ll forget that parts of this home are underground. From the outside, the villa fits right in with the surrounding homes of the area. The tops of this islands cliffs are dotted with seemingly randomly arranged homes that are distinctly very Greek. The villa has plenty of exterior lounge and dining space that’s ideal when you’re in an area like this. It’s also extremely close to the Santorini Airport, the beach, and the town of Fira is just a short walking distance away.

Santorini is almost entirely comprised of homes that are white with blue and orange accents, and not only is the exterior of Villa Gaia like this but the interior as well. The home is extremely sleek and minimalistic in nature, and it works very well. Again, sometimes less is more, and Villa Gaia is an example of that notion. The home is moderately sized, offering four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living rooms, two kitchens (remember there are two homes combined to make one), an entertainment system, and even a hot tub.

In the bedrooms and bathrooms we again see this extremely sleek and simple design that is absolutely beautiful. Despite parts of the home being carved into the island, the combination of windows and the extensive use of the color white make this home feel very vibrant and large. It may not have all the amenities and features seen in other homes, but in its simplicity it is just exceptional.

Villa Gaia is certainly extremely beautiful and it’s found within an equally beautiful location. However unlike other rentals that we often look at, one of the best parts about Villa Gaia is how much it costs. Depending on when you were to visit, the home ranges between $600 and $850 dollars per night. Compared to other rentals that are out there and on this island, Villa Gaia is actually extremely affordable. The villa proves that you don’t need to have a home theater or a private spa to be luxurious, and with views like these, it’s hard to complain.
