Tibetan Mastiff Sold for $2 Million

Tibetan Mastiff

For the longest time my better half has been begging me to get a puppy. Personally, I would love to adopt a dog, but it’s hard to resist a breeder pup. Ultimately, we will most-likely end up adopting. What I can promise you is that we won’t be spending the amount of money that a property developer in China just paid for his new pup.

An unnamed property developer in China just purchased a Tibetan mastiff puppy for $2 million, which may be the record for most money ever paid for a pooch. A one-year old golden haired mastiff at a luxury pet auction in the eastern province of Zhejiang fetched the price.

According to the breeder the pup has lion’s blood and is a top-of-the-range mastiff stud. He also revealed that he sold another pup for 6 million yuan (about $1 million). The mastiff’s are enormous and do have manes that make them resemble lions. The breed has become a prized status symbol among China’s wealthy sending prices skyrocketing. The breeder also included: “Pure Tibetan mastiffs are very rare, just like our nationally treasured pandas, so the prices are so high.”

Prior to this recent sale, a red mastiff named ‘Big Splash’ was sold for $1.5 million in 2011. To date, that was the most expensive dog sale on record. The buyer of this recent pooch has said he intends to breed his dog, perhaps making the $2 million cost disappear. Incredible nonetheless…

As I was saying, I’m going to adopt….
