Is Cosme the Hottest New Mexican Restaurant in NYC?

Cosme

New York City easily provides some of the best, and most diverse dining experiences not only America, but the world as well. The amount of restaurants in this city is pretty overwhelming, and its definitely a cut throat industry for those seeking to open up a new restaurant. Recently a new Mexican restaurant has opened up, Cosme, and it is shaping up to be one of the hottest Mexican restaurants in the entire city.

Located in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, new-kid-on-the-block Cosme has been consistently booked every night since its has opened. People are flocking to this restaurant as it is an upscale, Mexican restaurant offering premium dishes that just taste great. The restaurant offers great dishes that range from duck carnitas to octopus cocktail. Make no mistake, Cosme isn’t just some burrito place.

The restaurant is run by chef Enrique Olvera who is no foreigner to Mexican cuisine. A native of Mexico, Olvera has opened a few restaurants in Mexico, the most famous being a fine-dining restaurant known as Pujol in Mexico City. Seeing success in his home country, he wanted to bring his cooking to New York, and we are glad he did.

Every dish at Cosme has been carefully thought out, and the ingredients are the freshest. The food served here is definitely Mexican, but not how most Americans think of it. They serve the dishes that haven’t really been popularized over here, however they are as good as ever. For example, there is only one dish on the menu that resembles tacos, and even that is very premium as it is made slices of black garlic-rubbed New York strip steak that are served with fried shishitos and avocado-tarragon puree.

Chef Olvera and his crew deliver some very amazing dishes for those seeking a mixture of Mexican food and fine-dining. The restaurant attains an atmosphere that is casual, yet sophisticated, and the prices of the dishes range between $12 dollars to $49 dollars. If you happen to be in the area, you should definitely stop by to see what the fuss is about as it will be worth it.
