First Production A5 Light Sport Aircraft Revealed By Icon

Icon Aircraft is known for producing some of the world’s most extravagant aircraft. In July the company unveiled the first copy of the A5 light sport aircraft. Kirk Hawkins, CEO of Icon, introduced the world to the model at the Oshkosh, Wisconsin air show, which is the biggest general aviation show in the world. This design is one that is meant to bring in the interest of new pilots. The aircraft features more than just sporty aesthetic appeal. It also comes equipped with advanced aerodynamics and it’s allegedly a simple plane to fly.

What this plane offers is impressive. It’s a two-seater, so it’s not a family plane, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a purchase. Folding wings make it the perfect aircraft for those without much space in which to store their plane. Additionally, the entire cockpit is a wraparound glass that’s shaped like a bubble so that pilot and passenger miss nothing. The interior is very similar to a luxury sports car, and it has the ability to take off and land on both dry land and in the water. It can fly approximately 345 miles on one tank of gas, with max speeds of around 120 miles per hour. The price for one of these impressive aircrafts is around $205,000. It’s a reasonable price for a plane with this many features and an abundance of upgrades.

To preorder this impressive aircraft, you’ll need to wait four years for yours to be delivered. The preorders that have already been placed with Icon have lengthened the waiting list significantly. At the moment, there are 1,400 aircraft on the preorder list. The company will begin delivering aircraft to those on the waiting list in May now that they have begun using their new 140,000 square foot Vacaville, CA production facility.
