Tambo del Inka 1

A quick search on the internet will show you that there are a fair number of luxury resorts in Peru and specifically in the Sacred Valley, but the one that is rated the most lavish is the Tambo del Inka which is located along the route to Machu Picchu, ($758/night) about one hour from Cusco. Rooms face either the Urubamba River or Chicon glacier. The resort opened in 2010 and has been earning rave reviews since its opening.

This resort was designed by the firm Arquitectonica out of Miami, FL and is managed by the Starwood Luxury Collection. Each of the 128 rooms have triple story ceilings, stone chimneys and luxurious furnishings. As a guest of the resort, you can use the private train station to go to and from the ruins at Machu Picchu. The resort boasts the best Euro-Peruvian food and is aptly named Hawa which means “heaven” and includes homegrown and organic ingredients in all of their dishes.  Chef Rafael Piqueras offers standard menu items such as grilled fish and steak to more “new Andian” dishes such as lamb loin crusted with pecans.
