Five Hotels Offering Unforgettable Underwater Experiences

Underwater Hotels

For many years, a trip to an underwater hotel was just a thing of fantasy. But now there are actually many hotels that offer incredible underwater experiences. While there aren’t really any hotels that are completely underwater, there are plenty that have a few suites or a restaurant underwater. Obviously staying in a suite that’s located underwater, one that has views of a local coral reef, is totally unforgettable. So how many hotels out there are actually underwater? Where are they located? What are they like? We are going to take a quick look at five amazing hotels that offer spectacular underwater experiences.

5. Per Aquum Niyama – The Maldives

Niyama Subsix

The first hotel that we are going to take a look at on our list is the Per Aquum Niyama that is located in the Maldives. Now hotels in the Maldives will pop up on our list a few times, as it seems that they have a predisposition for offering underwater experiences. Now the resort itself is just absurdly luxurious; it’s a real 1%er type resorts. Niyama has private villas located out on the water, an amazing spa, multiple restaurants, and all the other things that you would expect a place where the “cheapest” room costs about $1,000 dollars per night. Now while there aren’t any hotel rooms or suites located underwater, Niyama does offer a restaurant/club that’s underwater. It’s called Subsix and it’s claim-to-fame is being the first underwater club in the world. It’s located about 1,600 feet out in the Indian Ocean and it’s around 20 feet underwater. While it’s part of the resort, Subsix is open to the general public. They do private breakfasts, wine tastings, wedding receptions, and at night they turn it into a club. It’s really expensive, but where else can you party in an underwater club?

4. Lovers Deep – The Carribbean

Lovers Deep

Constructing a hotel underwater is a difficult process and truly an incredible feat on engineering. So why would you construct a hotel underwater when we already have vehicles that can go underwater? Well that’s exactly what Lovers Deep is. Essentially the masterminds behind Lovers Deep have converted a working submarine into a luxury hotel that offers an unbelievable experience. The submarine can be docked off of any Caribbean island and it is completely outfitted with all the luxury amenities that you would expect. So while it’s not technical a “hotel” per se, you can still use Lovers Deep as a form of a premium accommodation. The only downside is that you have to book the entire submarine, and that costs about $270,000 dollars per night!

3. Atlantis, The Palm – Dubai

Atlantis Dubai

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Dubai is home to a hotel that offers an underwater suite. Atlantis, The Palm is an absurdly luxurious, five-star hotel and resort that is located at the end of one of those manmade islands. The manmade islands were already enough to impress anyone, but the Atlantis resort wanted to take it one step further. Naturally the property is home to all the luxury amenities, spas, restaurants, and features that you would expect it to have, and it’s also home to an underwater suite. It’s simply called the “Underwater Suite”, and it’s a romantic suite for two that’s located a few feet under the ocean. The windows look out into the water, and you can bet that you’ll wake up to a variety of different marine life that live just outside.

2. The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island – The Maldives

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island 1

We head back to the Maldives for the next hotel on our list, and this time it is the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. The resort  is absurdly luxurious and premium, and it offers pretty much everything you could possibly want from a premium beach resort that’s in an exotic location. While everything about the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is breathtaking, the coolest thing they offer is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant. It’s located about 16 feet underwater and it’s the first all-glass underwater restaurant in the world. The New York Daily News described it as “the most beautiful restaurant in the world”, and they serve contemporary European cuisine. However if you pockets are deep enough, the hotel will close down the restaurant completely and turn it into a premium suite for a few nights.

1. The Manta Resort – Zanzibar

The Manta Resort

The Manta Resort is a premium, five-star resort that is located on Pemba Island, a small island that is part of Zanzibar. On their website, they exclaim their resort is “probably as far away from civilization you might ever find yourself”, and they’re definitely right. It offers all the things that you’d expect it to have, including the highly desirable Underwater Room. The Underwater Room is essentially a private floating villa that’s about a two minute boat ride from the main property. The villa is entirely self-contained and extremely luxurious, and the best thing about it is that your bedroom is located underwater. So while the Underwater Room is part of the resort, it feels as though you are secluded from the rest of the area. If you’re seeking a luxury underwater suite, The Manta Resort can make your dreams become a reality.
