Ron Zacapa is a top shelf rum made in Guatemala by Rum Creation and Products. The company is a subsidiary of Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala who originally started producing the brand in 1976. The company has been a mass producer of alcohol and is constantly expanding within the industry. These are five facts you didn’t know about Ron Zacapa rum.

5. Rum is made from sugar

All rum comes from sugar cane juice, which a surprising amount of people aren’t aware of. Ron Zacapa uses virgin sugar cane honey which is aged and blended with different methods.

4. Their bottles originally came in a petate 

In the early years of Ron Zacapa, the company used to covered the bottles in a petate. A petate is a handwoven matting that is made from palm leaves. The process comes from the ancient Mayan period and is a nice addition onto alcohol bottles similar to how some whiskey or scotch comes in a nice cask.

3. Their rum has won international awards

The company has received numerous international awards from different competitions. They have won awards from the International Rum Festival’s Hall of Fame while The Beverage Institute even gave the rum a rating of 95.

2. They offer five different kinds of rum

Ron Zacapa currently offers a decent variety of rum choices currently with five. They have a Zacap 15, a 23, a 23 black label, a Zacapa 23 Straight from the Cask and finally, the Zacap XO which has been aged from 6 to 25 years.

1. How it’s made

The rum is created and aged at a high altitude where the temperature and amount of oxygen is significantly lower and creates a slower aging process. This helps the rum by giving the ingredients more time to mix together and create true flavor. Ron Zacapa rum is a blend of different rums that have been aged anywhere from six to 23 years.
