When it comes to premium Canadian whisky, Crown Royal is pretty much the undisputed king. The brand has been producing fine blended whisky for a number of years, and they are a favorite amongst countless drinkers around the world. Crown Royal introduced a new whisky this year, the Northern Harvest Rye Whiskey, and it has a lot of people talking. With the renewed focus on rye whiskies, it was only a matter of time before one received what is arguably the whisky world’s highest honor.”
It is an impressive feat for a fairly new whisky to win this award, and most whisky drinkers would probably find this whisky very appealing. Crown Royal used a mash of 90% rye grains for this whisky, and that makes the Northern Harvest Rye Whisky the first rye whisky that Crown Royal has ever made.
In terms of tasting notes, the Northern Harvest Rye has a scent of apples, baking spices, cereal, and light wood spices. When drinking the whisky you will be pleasantly greeted with a blend of rich butterscotch, gentle oak, vanilla, and apples which then transitions into soft notes of pepper. The finish is then smooth and creamy, which accentuates the taste even further. The Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye Whisky is balanced, tasty, and very smooth which makes it an easy pick for the World Whisky of the Year award.
