Barbadillo Has Produced a Limited Edition Run of 125-Year-Old Sherry, Priced at $11,144 per Bottle

Barbadillo Versos 1891 Sherry

Everyone knows that when it comes to wine and spirits, generally speaking, the older they are the more desirable they are. The Spanish winemakers known as Barbadillo have recently unveiled a limited edition batch of Amontillado sherry and it’s extremely haute. The sherry is 125 years old and one bottle will run you $11,114 dollars.

The sherry is called the “Versos 1891” and it serves as the brands finest example of sherry. Apparently the sherry comes from a single barrel that has been in possession of the Barbadillo family for 125 years as the barrel originally belonged to the former director of the company, Mr. Manuel Barbadillo. The barrel was given to Manuael as a christening present in 1891 and it’s never been opened, until now that is.

The sherry is extremely concentrated, and is “full, rich, and nutty”. It’s dark amber color is an indication of its age and how the flavors have been mixing together for all these years. The sherry is bottled in crystal decanters shaped like inkwells and they are then packaged in a box made from premium Spanish leather from Ubrique.

In total, Barbadillo has only produced just 100 bottles of the Versos 1891 sherry meaning that they will be extremely difficult to acquire. Additionally a single bottle is priced at $11,114 dollars, so it’s obviously quite expensive as well. While you will be paying a premium for the Versos 1891, we imagine that it’s a pretty fair price given the fact that the sherry is 125 years old. It’s not often that you’ll find wine this old, which is why this particular sherry is extremely desirable.
