5 of The Most Expensive Beers in The World

Most Expensive Beer

Beer is a beloved alcoholic beverage that has been a part of human history for thousands of years. Beer is brewed in pretty much every country in the world, and it comes in all different kinds and flavors. You have lagers, stouts, IPA’s, and all the different styles of beers can be made with practically every ingredient. But like any consumer product, there are also some “luxury” beers out there. While beer can be fairly affordable, it can also be extremely expensive. So let’s take a look at some of the most expensive beers in the entire world.

5. The “Space Barley” from Sapporo – $110 for a six-pack

Sapporo is a Japanese brewery that makes a range of different types of beers, but back in 2006 they did something a little different. During that year, Japanese and Russian scientists were investigating how plants grew in zero-gravity conditions. So they sent up some barley seeds to the International Space Station where it was planted. After around five months, the scientists were on their fourth grow of the plant, and decided to send some back to Earth. Sapporo used this barley to make some beer, and the final result was the Sapporo Space Barley. It was the first “space beer” in the world, and debuted with a price of $110 dollars per six-pack. It has since sold out, but you might be lucky enough to find some at an auction.

4. Samuel Adams’ “Utopias” – $150 per 700ml bottle

Sam Adams is one of America’s favorite breweries, and they produce all kinds of different beers. One of the companies most expensive beers, and one of the most expensive beers in the world, is called Utopias. It’s released every two years, it comes in a 700ml bottle, and it is 27% alcohol by volume. The beer is aged for around 18 years in sherry, bourbon, and scotch casks before it is released in limited numbers.

3. Schorschbräu’s “Schorschbock 57” – $275 per 33ml bottle

The Schorschbock 57 was a limited-release beer produced by Schorschbräu back in 2011. Containing 57.5% alcohol by volume, it was one of the strongest beers ever made. So based on that number, this “beer” is quite potent, to say the least. They only made just 36 bottles of the beer, and it debuted with a price of $275 dollars per bottle. But given the alcohol content, you only really need one bottle.

2. “The End of History” from Brewdog – $765 per 330ml bottle

Brewdog is a Scottish brewery that’s known for their crazy concoctions. They wanted to create the beer to end all beers, so they came up with “The End of History” beer. It’s priced at $765 dollars per bottle and it is 55% alcohol by volume. That’s stronger than many of the scotch whiskies from the region. It’s a Belgian blond that’s made with juniper berries that grow in the Scottish highlands. Only 12 bottles were made, and the bottles are made from taxidermied animals (weasels, rabbits, and squirrels). It could be the most extreme beer ever made, and it’s definitely one of the most expensive, strongest, and rarest beers of all-time.

1. The “Antarctic Nail Ale” from Nail Brewing – $800 to $1,800 per bottle

One of the most expensive beers ever made was the Antarctic Nail Ale from the Australian brewery known as Nail Brewing. They wanted to create a beer which would be auctioned off. All of the proceeds went to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, who are the folks on the Whale Wars television show. The beer is made from ice that was dug up in Antarctic, melted in Tasmanian, and then shipped to Perth where it was brewed. Only 30 bottles were made, and they sold at auction for prices between $800 and $1,800 dollars.
